The Effects of Illegal Immigration in the United States of America

Claire Galex
Is illegal immigration hurting America? Are illegal immigrants really taking up all of the available jobs? Are illegal immigrants paying taxes? Questions like the ones stated above constantly bother most Americans who are concerned about the current economic status of America.

America unlike many countries believes in freedom, rights and individual opinions. Anyone living in the United States of America is very fortunate. America is a lot better off than most other countries. In America we are not forced to cover our bodies with different clothes to hide ourselves. In America we have the freedom to make our own choices. In America we have the right to voice our opinion without getting shot for it. We have those rights and freedoms, but who is to say that everyone else does not deserve the exact same rights? Why is it that when others seek freedom they are looked down upon because they are trying to better themselves and their families? Why can't they be the same, and why can't be the better person and realize they are just trying to survive also.

A textbook called Racial and Ethnic Groups by Richard T. Schaefer states that on average in 2002, Illegal Immigrants were sending over $40 Billion Dollars to their home countries each year. That is more than the USA could ever give to foreign aid. On top of that in 2005, the Social Security Administration identified many workers contributing to about $7 Billion dollars that they had left over from people that could not file their taxes...AKA Illegal Immigrants. Those monies went right back into our economy. From the same text studies also suggest that at least 70% of all illegal immigrants pay taxes, however, they do not file their income tax refunds because they will get deported. Therefore, we have that $7 Billion that goes directly to America's companies, businesses, land, state facilities, etc.

Instead of the US having to send foreign aid to their countries to help them, the illegal immigrants have taken it upon themselves to send monies to their home countries. On average immigrants in the United States send about $40 Billion dollars to their home countries a year. That completely blows what America would do for them out of the water. Instead of America just having to give the money to them to help them out, they have workers over here who are sending it back, therefore, that money that we get to keep goes back into our economy also.

I am not an activist or anything of the sort, however, I am letting everyone know that there are different views on everything. The being of bias and racism is fear. Don't be afraid to look at others with an open mind and have the courage to call them friend.

I was illegal in US for about 5 years. we speak English better than most common Americans. morons
we are just afraid of what the stupidity of some may do to us,so we play mute. it's something coming from the subconscious mind, we can't control it.
yes, I've met many shitheads who didn't understand how important illegals are in US. we are not only fairly distributing the American money overseas, puting it in the right pockets, people who know what to do with it, honest people not corrupted by sweet arses American gov diplomats. we're not just keeping
alive small American businesses totally independed from American military mafia who corrupted once again the free American soul with the Iraq war paid by tax money.
small employing and not paying taxes companies dissolve big oil head American corporations and thus expand with an even economical matrix througout the world. Or you shitheads who didn't see this may believe that China, Italy, Spain, UK, and all oth

zed of the adversity that these people must go through, but our laws are plain and simple.
On a different not, 'An Alien' most people wouldn't know Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan even if you pointed to it on a map. I took a guess as to your country of origin, if is wrong i apologize. Keep your dreams alive and maybe someday you can become a citizen.
    Good luck

this one is to 'An Alien', Hey, I welcome others from foreign countries the ones who take the time to do the paperwork and 'jump threw hoops' to get here and become a United States citizen I welcome those people. It is the ones who run, jump, crawl, swim, and sneak their way across the border in order to obtain illegal Social Security cards, drivers licenses and such so they can obtain jobs and pay little to no taxes because of their 'illegal' behavior. The strain that the illegals put upon our welfare system is substantial as well as obtaining free healthcare, education and many other programs is a slap in the face to someone born and raised here where I can't get any of those things because I either make a few dollars more than the minimum amount allowed or the hassle to get these programs are taxing to the point of frustration. I can understand the need to make a better life for you and your family and in America some of us wouldn't know hardship if it kicked us in the mouth I am amaz

Well, guys, I am the one who has never been to the United States and who has a hope and even a dream of migrating to your country. I am from Central Asia, I am not going to name the exact place because you wouldn't know it anyway (no offense, it's a very small country). Maybe you are aware that the life in this region is not too much of a paradise. It actually sucks. Probably you don't understand how it feels to wake up everyday in a place like this and to see everyday your country in the movies or on television. It is so different. You're guys lucky just to be born in America. I do, of course, understand that America is not perfect. Nothing is perfect. I also understand that a lot of morons are migrating to America. But I think that you should be patient and give the chances to everyone who deserves a better life.

Well Nikki (guest) the information comes from statistics that the government puts out, along with the states information. Not only that but they also come from textbooks from colleges that have been updated the exact same year that this was written which was 2008. See the problem with a lot of people is they tend to use their own situations to judge something instead of looking at the facts.

  • Claire6/20/2010

The facts are listed in my article, and the judgment upon your own situation in the WIC office is yours. Where is your information coming from? Here’s the real deal, the information is spelled out clear for you whether you prefer to see it or not is your own thing, but it’s there to help you not be so biased. Perhaps the people that you are seeing are the refugees that can come to our country without an ID or anything like that because they were in serious danger that you could never imagine. Oh but in your view that’s wrong right, we should just what?...I guess let them live in danger and watch every step.

  • Claire6/20/2010

That’s a good life right? The funny part is that I never even mentioned WIC, isn’t that funny? Yes some illegal aliens have been stealing identities but guess who gets it for them? That’s right Americans. And also before you put something down you should think about it. here’s a real thought for you if you can handle it. If they are smuggling drugs into the country then they have to have an American connection in order for them to even cross…OMG did I just cross the line, the truth hurts. Oh and not only that but many Americans have been caught in the drug smuggling business also, are we all like that because of those few. You are saying that right? You just said that they are all stealing identities and smuggling, and ruining everything pretty much. We have “to deal” with other countries people because we are the land of the free, and we live by that. That’s what it means to be American.

  • Claire6/20/2010

We have people fighting right now to ensure that we remain free, and now because of your opinion (that has no knowledgeable information for these remarks that you have typed) we should change that. For the last thing that you said, if it was possible for them to make a difference in their countries I am sure that they would. How would you like to flee in the mist of the night because a militia against the government is slaying everyone in your town? Yea well that’s what some of these people are going against; do you really think that those standing their ground against a blood thirsty militia with guns would really make a difference??? I don’t think so. The next time that you remark like that, let’s try and have some real knowledge on the ACTUAL facts, Miss Nikki!!! Comment is broke up into many different parts so that all can be spelled out for Nikki, and so that all can be addressed!

  • Nicki6/7/2010

WOW, I cannot believe everything I am reading. Where are you finding your information Claire and Tony? I have been in the WIC office and all you see there are people with no proof of ID and they can't speek a word of English. Not everyone who goes in to the WIC office is "lazy". Now who's being bias? Illegal aliens have been stealing identities and ruining other American's credit reports by using their social security numbers and they, the illegal aliens, have been caught smuggling drugs into our country. How is it you can support these people? I am not saying that Americans are perfect, however, they are people that live here already and they are Americans that we have to deal with. Why do we have to deal with other countries people? If an illegal aliens home is not what they want and they want a better life don't you think they should stay there, in their home country, and try to make it better for their children and their children's children? I believe that is what Americans
