The Egg Diet: How it Works

Paul Mann
If you are looking to lose weight fast, then the egg diet could be for you. A spin off of the popular Atkins Diet, the egg diet is incredibly similar with the only difference being, you guessed it, stressing the importance and intake of eggs as opposed to other protein sources. Is this diet for you? Let's examine it and figure out.

Number one, this is an Atkins like diet. Meaning that there is a restriction on carbs (you will not be able to eat any), and a reliance on protein and fat to build energy. While other meats are allowed, they should be in moderation. So on the egg diet, you can still eat cheese, steak, chicken, and other such proteins; however, your main source of food will be an unlimited amount of eggs, while the other foods should be limited.

Of course, there are many fears with a diet like this to be sure. Does it really make you lose weight? All I have to do is point back up to the fact that this is a Atkins offshoot, and you should know that you can. By depriving your body of carbs, your body will instead convert your body fat and the fat you took in to create glucose. This process will burn fat and give you extra energy. While the first few days may make you sick, this is normal and should be followed up by a doctor only is symptoms persist.

Other fears, beyond its effectiveness, is what about all the anti-egg propaganda? We all heard that eggs are the wonder food, but one look on the nutritional value section tells us we are eating a dizzying amount of cholesterol. Well fear not, because your body won't be creating any. For the body to manufacture cholesterol, it has to be combined with carbs. If one side of this equation is dissolved, then what does that mean? No deadly, heart stopping cholesterol.

What about the saturated fats? Known as bad fats, the amount you are eating will be rather low compared to any beef variety of food, and since your body is using fat as energy there will be nothing to worry about.

Can you have any juice while on this diet? No, you should only drink water. Drinking water will help you lose weight, as where juices and sodas (even diet) will only help retain weight.

So what we have here is an Atkins diet with an egg focus. If you love eggs and want to lose weight, try this out. Remember, you can eat other foods, but make sure they are Atkins approved foods, and that they are still in moderation. Such as eggs and bacon, that's good. But pound after pound of steak isn't. So scramble, fry, or omelette those eggs all day long, and find a sleeker, thinner you.
