The Electric Cafe Restaurant Review

Michelle Knudson
My editor and I visited the Electric Cafe in Saint George, Utah on the evening of St. Patrick's day. Upon walking in, we were promptly greeted by the staff who seated us near the window. My editor and I both ordered their Raspberry Italian Soda to drink. I ordered the the Rib eye Steak cooked well done. My editor told me that a Rib eye is usually marbled with fat but the flavor was still very good. My editor had a very late lunch and wasn't hungry so he just sat and enjoyed his Italian soda.

First to arrive was a basket with two hot, fresh dinner rolls with butter. I had a choice of soup or salad and chose the French Onion soup. The soup arrived in a timely manner. It was very filling and tasted great. I didn't finish all of it because I wanted to save room for my dinner. When my Rib eye steak arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. It was much larger than I anticipated. 16 ounces to be exact. It was cooked well done. Many restaurants will serve a well done steak that is dry and lacks flavor. This was not the case with the Electric Cafe. My Rib eye steak was well done and juicy with an abundant amount of flavor. Served with my steak were seasoned potatoes with spinach. My waitress came to the table to ask if my steak was alright. I think she was a bit concerned as I hadn't begun eating it yet. I told her that I was just marveling over the size of the steak. Now despite my editor's comment that most Rib eye steaks are marbled with fat, this Rib eye steak from the Electric Cafe was not. There was barely any fat on the steak. That's no accident either. Owners Steve and Linda McComb hand pick all of their steaks and other cuts of meat. Linda explained that she will NOT deal with cookie cutter type food suppliers as she feels that most of their meat products are not unique but rather uniform.

The Electric Cafe is anything but uniform. They opened their doors for business in April of 2009. Upon moving in, there was no equipment in the kitchen. Landlords Jim and Sandra Bayless sincerely wanted to see the Electric Cafe thrive and equipped the kitchen with a stove and other items. Owners Steve and Linda McComb searched the community and Las Vegas, Nevada to purchase the items of decor throughout the restaurant. Co-Owner Steve McComb is a professional painter and it was him that painted the unique color scheme throughout the Electric Cafe of a reddish brown. Various plants and floral arrangements adorned the walls and were throughout the restaurant. A single lit candle was placed on every dining table. Frank Sinatra songs played quietly in the background to give the Electric Cafe a nice touch of class. Who doesn't just love "Blue Eyes"? The Electric Cafe's Raspberry Italian Ice drinks have 7up, cream, and raspberry syrup. They are more like a dessert than a drink. They also offer, soft drinks, juice and milk.

Linda McComb gives the credit to the long lines outside for lunch to her lunch chef Lorena Cappeletti and her assistant Elizabeth. She also marvels on how dinner chef Allison Ward makes each meal unique and special. Linda mentioned that some of the most popular dinner items that get the most attention at the Electric Cafe are the Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast and the Rib eye Steak. Every meal a the electric cafe is made from scratch. The Electric Cafe does not use canned products or any products that come from a box. However, their prices are still very reasonable and affordable.

The Electric Cafe is open for lunch and for dinner. It's located at 36 East Tabernacle Street in Saint George, Utah. They have daily dinner specials. My experience at the Electric Cafe was flawless right up through our exit when the staff opened the door for us upon our exit. The Electric Cafe is perfect for a touch of class and elegance. It has excellent food, great service, and is affordable for nearly everyone. It's defiantly worth checking out.
