The Elements of Astrology

Each of us has an astrological sign determined by the month and day of our birth. Most know the name of their sign (I am a Virgo) and might have a little passing interest in the characteristics attributed to their sign while others research, study, and embrace their sign. Some of the latter will go to the extent of basing the majority of their lives around horoscopes and other astrology related events. Even though I do not go to those extremes I have always been extremely interested in the connection between the elements and astrological signs.

The four elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, are used to represent certain aspects of our personality that are attributed to the connection between the particular element and sign. There are those who claim their particular element while they are claiming their sign. My own element is Earth and along with other Virgos, those who are Capricorns and Taurus' share my element. We are solid and get pleasure from material things (not necessarily materialistic but we do enjoy tangible things) and also enjoy sensual pleasures.

The Fire elements are often extremely passionate people such as Leos', Aries' and Sagittarius'. In addition to warm passions these signs are also afflicted with explosive tempers. That can be a bad thing at times but the enthusiastic nature that is also a characteristic of a fire sign can make up for that temper. These signs are also natural motivators and warm personalities in general that can inspire trust and relaxation in most people.

While Water signs may not be so warm or passionate the compassionate nature that comes with the territory makes up for that. The signs Pisces, Cancer, and Water are all consider water signs and because of this people who have theses signs and share this element are more in tune with their emotions. Aside from a sensitive nature water signs also are extremely imaginative and creative.

The last element, Air, influences the more 'sociable' people. These individuals have the signs Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius. By sociable I mean people with these signs are great communicators. They thrive on discussion, debate, and are usually the one in the group with all the great ideas. In short they are true thinkers. Now that you see how each element governs a specific groups of signs you can see why the connection between astrological signs and the four elements intrigues.
