The Emmy Awards Show and What I Thought

My Opinions of the Night's Show

I enjoyed the Emmy Award show last night. Now I am not sure of how the rest of the viewing public felt about it, but overall, I really did think it was a good show.

Fashion wise, I think Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy looked beautiful. She was my favorite actress in the fashion category. Dress was gorgeous, and hair was beautifully done. She also happened to win in her category, Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. More on her speech to follow.

My favorite commercial had to be from Macy's. Loved it! There were so many featured faces I couldn't stop watching it. The funniest scene in this commercial, again in my humble opinion, was with Donald Trump blow-drying his hair. Hilarious! I just enjoyed that commercial so much it was fun and captivating.

My second favorite commercial was probably McDonalds. Very cute and well done. It was based on a family sitting down and enjoying a McDonald's meal. The son, probably about 6-8 comes in and is seriously into his music on his boom box. The dance-moves he makes while enjoying his food is very cute and the whole family is pretty much amazed watching the little guy. Cute. Well-done Ronald McDonald!

My favorite special moment of the show would probably be when Queen Latifah gave a special tribute to the groundbreaking miniseries, Roots. I especially was moved when the cast from the series was onstage together. It was easy to see that they were all touched by the standing ovation they received.

Another favorite moment for me was when Elaine Stritch was on stage as a presenter. She was hilarious, and I am not really certain if it was planned or spontaneous on her part. The actress started off as giving the appearance of not having a clue about what she was doing or was supposed to do. I admit I was worried and started to feel sad at first, as I thought Ms. Stritch was acting a bit senile. But soon enough she had me laughing out loud at my TV screen. Funny, funny woman. God Bless her!

I was very pleased when one of my all time favorite actresses, Sally Field, won for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The speech she gave was a little on the rambling side, but I like how she kind of dedicated the award to Moms everywhere. The little bleep Ms. Field earned at the end of her speech was so typical I think of the feisty actress. Political? Nah. Eheh.

Katherine Heigl's speech had me a bit concerned in the opening moments. Obviously the actress was overwhelmed at winning, and graciously acknowledged her amazing competitors in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. But she made me grimace when she nervously mentioned something to the effect that her own mother had told her she had no chance in winning. Hmmmm. Of course the camera panned to her Mom's face sitting in the audience, and her expression looked a bit confused and not necessarily happy at that moment. But Katherine quickly added her Mom has been her greatest supporter and that her mom loved her (Katherine) very much. Ms. Heigl really ended her flustery speech on a good note when she again thanked her mom, said the award was for her mom, and that she could not have won the award without her mom. Nice recovery.

As for the hosting .eh.

I liked Ellen Degeneres. I could have done without Ryan Seacrest (why is he everywhere?) Ray Romano always is funny. He got the old bleep monitor going too.

Lewis Black. Funny.

So, overall, I enjoyed the show. Had some good belly laughs and some teary moments as well. I know football and Big Brother 8 was also on at the same time (I sneak peeked at BB8 as well), so I don't know how ratings will be. But for me, The Emmy Awards made for a an enjoyable Sunday evening.
