The Empowered Voter

Political Humor in Poetry

PenPress
I am a voter that politicians appear to value,
They try to sway me with stories false or true.
They think I do nothing but vote,
But there are so many points I do note.
Politicians are good at putting up a show,
That is something all of us know,
In order to get the best draw,
They portray themselves with no flaw.
Voting, thus needs careful consideration,
If we are to get a good administration.
Out of all the fifty states,
At stake are so many delegates!
So, during election "we" set the momentum,
Doesn't matter who has the prominent chum.
To me the issues are important,
Those are the factors that are dominant.
Have been fooled before,
Won't put up with it anymore.
If the politicians try to be slick,
We will trump that with the voting trick!

Politics can make candidates turn dirty,
Will not stay committed to any single party.
Therefore, do I want a Democrat,
That can be a remarkable diplomat?
Or do I elect a Republican,
A conservative politician?
How about an Independent,
Who will be adequately confident?
It is a crucial decision,
That has to be made with precision.
What should I look for in a candidate?
Do I care how much he is desperate?
I don't mind if he falls off a stage,
Or addresses the audience with rage.
I don't care if he is an Ivy Leaguer,
Or a famous Hollywood leader.
It really doesn't matter if it's a he or a she,
The candidate has to value "me".
My priorities cannot be ignored,
The voters' wishes have to be explored.

I'm a citizen that the politicians cherish,
Only when they need a first place finish.
I want to make it clear,
There are issues that I hold dear.
I don't want job outsourcing
Don't want uncontrolled gas pricing.
I mind if there's not enough social security,
Also if I see more job insecurity.
I don't care if they cannot spell "potatoes",
Or have extreme personal foes.
I mind when they serve corporate interest,
And cater to the people that invest.
As much as I want an executor,
I want a good communicator.
I do want the president to be able to speak,
And don't want him to look painfully bleak.
Whenever there is a scope,
He has to be able to generate hope.
The voters are not giving up,
This time we have been "fired up".

Collectively, the voters need a voice,
So that we can make a good choice.
Now that the impact is global,
I know the decision is moral.
US now claims to be the leader,
Has become the world's "decider".
Cannot repeat that arrogance,
Don't want a government with ignorance.
Cannot afford to let anybody lie,
Young people do not have to die.
The country has been disorganized,
The world has been disenfranchised.
If it happens at this rate,
What will be in our fate?
There is no need for elective war,
We elect a president, not a Czar.
The country has gone backward,
Think about what we'll do afterward.
If they want to deploy troops fast,
Just see how many votes we cast.

For voting so many things to consider,
This should be a good reminder.
We have to take a stance,
Nobody should win by chance.
We want a leader that we elect,
And not the one the Supreme Court select.
Cannot let the president squander,
We don't need too many OPEC lender.
Want more fiscal responsibility,
The leader has to maintain the nation's unity.
Still need a diplomat who is qualified,
To keep the nations unified.
I mind if they misuse public funds,
I absolute do not want less tax refunds.
When they tell us to read their lips,
Tax rate better see some dips.
The winner has to uphold democracy,
And will have to leave a good legacy.
The voters are no fool,
We have the strongest tool.

Even if the candidates are only a few,
We are always in it for something new.
Michigan and Florida were too early,
To hold the presidential primary.
At the convention they won't sit,
This is giving the Dems a fit.
Votes may get mailed-in again,
This will too give a scope for complain.
This time though aren't we glad,
The controversy is not about chad!
During every election trouble finds its way,
To be 'n-sync with the politicians' play.
Who is to say who will say whose words,
Making false promises don't take nerds.
There's nothing for you to not understand,
Plagiarism of copyrighted plagiarism is totally banned!
Keep personal attacks out of the campaign,
If public confidence is what you are to attain.
The voters can identify the diffidence,
We are not devoid of intelligence.

We need somebody smarter,
Don't want another Mr. Character.
The public don't need to get bore,
Intellectual speeches make us snore.
Cannot figure out what is "Nuc-u-liar",
Don't need vocabulary so peculiar.
We don't need to be the spectator,
And fall prey to another actor.
Don't need a president as an accomplice,
Keep scandals out of the Oval Office.
If you care about our concern,
Keep monitoring the Page and Intern.
Presidents need to have some clue,
When they grant pardons that are undue.
It gets very hard to save face,
When the president falls from grace.
Taxpayers get penalized to investigate,
The scandals like Whitewater or Watergate.
Our decision can no longer be influenced,
The voters have gotten experienced.

I believe as voters we are highly valued,
At least, in theory that's what is construed.
Then why a candidate with the most popular vote
Still loses due to less Electoral vote?
When People's contention
Does not get heard before the convention,
How will I know there will be democracy,
In the case of Super Delegates with intimacy?
This situation makes me wonder;
The question I now ponder:
Does our vote really matter?
Do the politicians only flatter?
When the result they already know,
Is our casting votes just a show?
No, the election cannot be a joke,
Have to make the last stroke.
Whether it is a "yeah" or a "nay",
"We" will have the last say.
Our morale cannot be lowered,
The voters have been empowered.
