The Enchanting World of Disney

Christopher Blydenburgh
Would you believe that the dreamlike world of Disney was created by a young artist? It all began with Walter Elias Disney's fancy imaginations. This young 18 year old boy was a professional artist in Kansas City and at that time he worked in the Pesmin-Rubin Commercial Art Studio. The foundation of Disney started in the year 1923 when this young boy created a series called Alice Comedies for J.M. Wrinkler. And, in the year 1928, he designed Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie. Since then, Mickey Mouse has been a common name to every household. Later, Steamboat Willie developed and came out with sound synchronized.

The very first animated film that has received an Oscar award was Walt Elias Disney's "Flowers and Trees" animation, which was also his first colored cartoons in 1932. In the same year, Donald Duck, a character that became as popular as Mickey Mouse, gave his first appearance.

The Dawn of Disneyland

Walter Elias Disney, commonly known as Walt Disney dreamed of building a place where parents and kids could spend special times together. This place is now the United States' most visited holiday destination - the Disneyland. Originally, only 8 acres of land was considered in building Disneyland but eventually the builders realized that with a dream as big as this, 8 acres of land was not enough. The construction of this dream began on the 21st of July, 1954 and today, Disneyland California covers more than 180 acres.

Disneyland, having 17-million-dollar fund, is so big that it was divided into 5 main attractions that now comprise the Magic Kingdom:

Frontierland - a place where visitors could try to experience the American Frontier life and understand their pioneer days.

Main Street, U.S.A.- a place where visitors could witness and relieve the development of the Main Street during the turn of the century.

Fantasyland - a place where anyone's classic stories in their youth become real for all its participants.

The Adventureland - a place that could transport visitors to the strange tropical jungles of Africa and Asia.

Tomorrowland - if one place could relieve the past, this is the place where one could see the future.

People experienced this amazing magic for the first time when Disneyland was opened on July 17, 1955.

Walt Disney's dream did not end with the success of his first amusement park. He planned to open another Disneyland in Orlando Florida, the best place for theme parks for its good weather throughout the year. In the year 1964 to 1965, a swamp land of 27 thousand acres was bought in Florida for Walt Disney's second park, the Disneyworld. Similar to his Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom was also included in the Disneyworld project. Additionally, he invented the EPCOT, which stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It is to be the future's city, which displays all possible scientific inventions. Sadly, Walt Disney did not see all these plans to life as he died on the 15th of December, 1966.

Fortunately, Roy Disney, his brother, continued what Walt Disney had started. And the dream came to reality on October 1, 1971 as Disneyworld, which was later changed to Walt Disney World by Roy Disney, became accessible to the public.

If not for Walt Disney and Roy Disney, United States wouldn't have its two amazing Disney Parks. Lots of gratitude to Walt Disney for all his brilliant ideas and to Roy Disney for continuing the Walt Disney World, which is now the most popular recreational park that is about 47 square miles or 30,500 acres. And who would forget the very first fantasy world of Disneyland? It all started with Walt Disney's fantasy - a fantasy that never ceases to enchant the hearts of everyone.
