The End of the American Empire and the Real Beginning of "We the People."

Corkey Carson
As a nation, we have become Sadie behind the blinds. We just keep sticking our nose in the entire worlds business, while our unfinished business goes unattended. We just can't stop playing our favorite game "regime change." Yes, we just can't tolerate any country having a government that's not almost identical to ours. We seem to forget that our own government took quite a while to evolve into what it is today. And at best, we are still very far from perfect, and even after our revolution was won, we started off with many flaws.

How would you have liked to fight in the revolution, only to find that you couldn't vote unless you had property. Or how bout the fact that the nation started out as a republic and still remains a republic even today. I mention this because slavery is not generally accepted in a democracy. And even although the white indentured slaves were freed after the revolution, the black slaves were not. And that eventually caused a great Civil War, that tore the entire country apart.

Despite the fact that the nation had a pro business and pro wealth tilt from the start and remains that way today, the saving grace for America was always the fact that the constitution could always be amended. And now we must amend the constitution, so that America at last lives up to it's rallying cry of "we the people" at long last. The people must never again be tricked into lunatic adventures masterminded by corporations and their political lackeys.

First, a manufactured claim that North Vietnamese gun boats fired on our navy in the Gulf Of Tonkin, got us into a long war that ended up costing taxpayers a billion dollars a week. And then of course there was that weapons of mass destruction guy that was ready to destroy the whole world unless we took him out and took over all his oil fields for all all those poor deprived oil companies. And now it turns out that we've been giving tens of millions of dollars to the Taliban for security, despite the fact that we're fighting them at the same time.

But the good news is that these are all the signs of an empire coming to an end. Because when things get to such a point of the sublime, at last "we the people" say enough is enough. It's really a shame, that it always has to come to this, but like that famous song, "that's the way it is." One only needs to look at the history of declined empires to see how wonderful it really is for "we the people." First, lets look at Sweden. It was the first country in the world to quit wars for good. As a result, today Sweden has the highest living standards in the world. Switzerland was next and became a banking giant and today has a very high standard of living. And soon after France pulled out of NATO, their workers became the most productive in the world, and today France enjoys a very high living standard.

So with the resources that our great nation has, we should quickly become the best place for Joe and Jane average to live, just as soon as we stop becoming Sadie behind the blinds and stop minding the whole worlds business. How and when will this happen? I don't really know. Perhaps Sarah Palin will soon become the first women president. Or maybe the "tea party" will be the catalyst for change. But however it happens, one thing you can be sure of, is that it will happen, and will happen soon.
