The End of the Line for Colt Harris?

Colt Harris-Moore Has stole and burglarized at least fifty residences and stores within a two year period throughout Washington, Idaho, and Canada, some people say hundreds, but that is fallacy; that being said however, it goes way beyond petty theft, we now know that he has also stolen at least two planes possibly more, one car from his mothers neighbor, and at least one speed boat.

There have been several stories about this Barefoot Bandit. ABC, Time and several other news agencies have taken interest in this kid; even outside magazine had an article about him, written by Bob Friel. But let's get to the facts. This isn't some hero, this is a kid that might have a lot of problems, but frankly, he is just a bad kid. I'm tired of all these people going around saying how many problems he has. That it is because he was abused, that his mother didn't care, that he is acting out. To be honest that is no excuse. There are thousands of people that are abused, and don't turn to crime.

I don't find it amusing that people think stealing from others is a "Cool" thing, enough to start a fan club over or sell shirts regarding him. Personally I find it sick. It bothers me that people idolize this kid for stealing, why? You want to go to prison or end up dead? That's a noble goal in life, so it would appear; good luck with that!

In Bob Friels article about this kid in outside magazine, Bob relates how he really feels for this kid. Maybe Bob wouldn't feel so much, if it was his house Colt stole from?

Recently it is believed that he returned to Orcas Island in Washington State, not far from where he had grown up. There is little doubt that he picked Orcas Island not only because it had been a while since he was there, but it makes a perfect home for winter. With many vacation houses abandoned for the winter, it allows him more room to move from uninhibited house to house why committing crimes.

However things might not be going his way, it was rumored that he attempted to steal a plane with no success and failed, yet the Sherriff's office is denying it. He was also suspected in an attempted break in at the local hardware store, another failed attempt. It is now believed he might be trapped on the island with nowhere to hide.

With people watching the boats and airports, it might finally be the end of this long awaited story. Many people have said he is like Jesse James, but in all honesty, I often think of him like Claude Dallas, a thought of mountain man that was captured outside Riverside California. Everyone keeps pointing that this is a kid of the forest, and yet his history shows a different side, things like him breaking into homes to stay or construction sites.

I realize this kid did not have good parents, a father that was abusive and left, and a mother (Pamela Kohler) whom is quoted saying she hopes her son is responsible for these crimes, that she is proud of him. Nice huh? Makes you wish she was in jail. But ultimately the blame rest solely on him.

Here are some additional facts about Mr. Harris - Moore. Between 12 and 16 years old the kid was arrested 4 times and sent to juvenile detention, he escaped, where he began his current crime spree.

People have said that he gets in trouble in order to be recognized, well so do many serial killers and I don't have a lot of sympathy for them either.

Nobody is responsible for his actions, not his mother, not his father, only him. It isn't the attention from others that bothers me, what makes me sick to my stomach, is how the public have responded making him a hero, or a victim of the environment he was raised. To be honest, he is just a really bad kid, who is getting cocky and will eventually get caught, possibly even killed. The police consider him armed and dangerous, they know that he at least has a rifle and knives, and there is question about a pistol, but at one recent robbery a holster was taken. How will this end? My personal hope is that he is caught, without violence and not killed, but ultimately the decision will be his. If he dies, will his mother be proud of him then, like she is now?
