The 'Energy Crisis' and Price Manipulation of Oil
Could Bush Be Seeking to Supplement His Federal Pension in This Latest Move?
It seems fortuitous that just as President Bush is set to leave office and this travesty of a presidency may be coming to an end - gasoline and the price of foreign oil is at it's highest levels ever, with the President now in his last six months of office calling for a lifting of the ban on domestic exploration of further oil reserves. While I agree this is the way to go in becoming more of the sovereign nation we were intended to be, and hopefully move toward ending our reliance on foreign oil once and for all, the timing of all of this and the huge increases in the cost of gasoline alone this past year just leads me to speculate that this could be 'administration driven' rather than actually 'market driven' in both the pump prices and 'terrorism' tactics which are being, again, put forth by both the candidates and this administration.
Wonder how many of those on the Hill also have stock portfolios filled with shares, whether through direct investment or their various business concerns or mutual funds, in Big Oil? With all the ads now running on TV by the oil industry defending their actions and now even 'reminding' Americans that a great majority do have a 'stake' in their profits through their investments in mutual funds and other stocks - it is quite laughable the lengths that these politicians and corporate giants will go to defend sometimes the indefensible. In this uncertain economy - more likely many people are selling off those shares just be able now to afford the product, or the increases in their health insurance or mortgages.
We need some form of regulation of the profits and their practices of this vital industry, while removing the unnecessary regulation that has contributed to what has occurred in strangle holding our ability to drill within our own borders, and also on the agricultural industry and our nuclear energy commission in not being able to produce as much corn and grain as they can in order to shift some of this 'energy burden' to ethanol and cleaner fuels (including nuclear).
Appears the Bush family, with the lifting of the ban, but without regulatory control of profits or practices will continue to build their wealth on the backs, again, of their countrymen, as they and their inner circle have with this ever expanding War in Iraq for oil.
