As a female fan of football, I always believed women could play professional football. After watching the New England NightMare practice, I know they can. I exercise everyday, usually for 90 minutes, but my workouts which are challenging, are nothing like this. Watching these ladies practice gave me a deep respect for their strength, and conditioning.
What's even more amazing is the women's ability to do this, while working other jobs. They come to practice twice a week for 3 hours, after a day full of work, and taking care of their families. Not to mention, the time they spend in the gym training, when they're not at practice. One of the players echoed the point. "We all have full time jobs, and it's tough, but we do it, unfortunately with little, or no media attention." They aren't playing under bright lights, or in front of television cameras. They are playing because they enjoy the game. Responsible for purchasing their own equipment, these women have a strong desire to play a game girls grew up thinking they could never play.
Women's professional football is a big deal for the state of Connecticut. It's an example to young girls in the state, that they can do what was once thought impossible. There are less and less doors closed to females, and female athletes. Little girls growing up can now say I want to be a professional football player when I grow up, and know it's a possibility. That's all any of us can hope for, an opportunity. If you're interested in learning more about the team, visit their website,
It will take strong support from the state of Connecticut, and it's residents, to make the New England NightMare a success. If you give these women a chance, you won't be disappointed.
When the season begins in the spring, at Dillon Stadium in, Hartford, Connecticut I hope these women get the fan support they deserve. The first home game for the New England NightMare, is April 24th against, Philly. The game starts at, 2:30 P.M., hope to see you there.New England NightMare.
