Having watched the team from their first game, to their last, the improvement is immeasurable. The growth the women displayed, was admirable. Brought together from all walks of life, professions, and athleticism, this team worked hard to improve over the course of the year.
With an off-season to recruit and work, I expect the NightMare to come back a stronger team next year. Featuring a quarterback, Kira Karlstrom, playing the position for the first time, the NightMare will only be better with a year of experience for the rookie quarterback. The running game featuring, Lorie Lindo, looked a lot stronger as the season progressed. The defense also made tremendous strides, as evident by their shutout in the final game.
The state of Connecticut should be very proud to have a team full of dedicated players, who sacrifice a great deal to be part of this team. These women play for the love of the game, and their team. There are no big contracts, or endorsements. These women pay dues to play, as the league offers no financial support at this time. After a year with the team, these women have earned my respect and admiration.
Women's tackle football has a long way to go, to sustain support, and a strong fan base. After viewing a season of games, I can assure you, the games feature hard hitting, spectacular plays, and plenty of excitement. All that's missing, are the bright lights, and camera crews.
Some football purist may say, women playing football can't be as authentic as their male counterparts. I challenge them to watch some of the games. With teams all across North America, finding a women's tackle football team to support, won't be difficult.
