The Enjoyment of Home Gardening

GK
In the past few decades, home gardening is gaining ground to becoming one of the most popular hobbies and past times. It is believed that 8 out of 10 households have some type of garden planting. It's no wonder why; gardening can be quite relaxing, beautiful, and rewarding when the plants start to thrive with their blossoms and fruits. Whether you are planting flowers, vegetables, or performing some landscaping activity, you can consider yourself of the many gardeners in the country.

The majority of the people who practice gardening at least start out by filling their flower beds with a wide variety of colorful flowers. Roses are a favorite flower of many people, but they actually take considerably more amounts of nourishment and care than other plants. They are not recommended for beginning gardeners who are just starting to learn the ropes. If you are just starting out, you may want to look into other perennials and annuals that will come back on a regular basis.

Another popular aspect of home gardening that people partake in is growing edible plants (fruits and vegetables). The joy of planting these crops is the reward that comes when they are fully grown, and the gardener gets to sample the taste of his/her work. Some of the most commonly grown foods in a home garden include carrots, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, pears, and watermelon. Smaller plants, such as strawberries and blackberries, are also favored as they take little work and space to grow.

Thought most people do not consider it a form of gardening, landscaping the yard is just as much a part of the activity as planting a tree. Actually, planting a tree can be considered landscaping, even though it is more often done for the food or shape that it will later provide. Landscape involves any work done on the lawn to decorate it or make it more beautiful. The addition of flowers, sod, lawn ornaments, shrubs, ponds, and statues are all types of landscaping.

Gardening is an enjoyable interest, and you do not need to have the greenest thumb around to do it successfully. Do some research on the plants you wish to grow before you begin so you will know how to take the best care of them. Once you see your thriving garden, you will feel very proud of yourself, and it could possibly make you want to expand your area or plant more things.
