The Equus Will Move Hyundai to New Luxury Car Heights

Kyle Busch
What automaker do the
others secretly fear the
most? The one that is
on the move - Hyundai!

The new Sonata is gun-
ning to be the class leader
of the mid-sized family
sedan segment.

The 2011 Hyundai
Equus
is coming to
the upper luxury end

of the market. Regarding size, the Equus is built on a lengthened version of the
Genesis platform. The engine is a 4.6-liter V8 making 385 hp and it will run on
regular fuel. The power is put down through a ZF sourced six-speed automatic
transmission.

As is to be expected from a car that takes direct aim at the Lexus 460 and the
Mercedes S550, the Equus abounds in technology including HID headlamps,
LED turn signals, a lane departure warning system, electronic parking assist,
air suspension, as well as smart cruise control. Furthermore, the Equus features
a standard leather interior with wood trim, an Alcantara headliner, and a French
stitched instrument panel.

The Hyundai Equus will be in dealer showrooms this summer. Expect the
starting price to be in the mid-$55,000 range.

Will this Hyundai be able to compete with the well established and more
expensive Lexus and Mercedes? Well, with Hyundai's recent track record,
it will be no real surprise if it does!
