But it is a selfishness of the worst kind
Forcing someone within a grasp
To intimidate the heart as well as the mind
Guilt is a tool of laziness
A temporary fix for a lonely soul
A heart cannot be forced to love another
No one wins in this fight for control
We all reach for guilt at times
It is an easy emotion to embrace
Getting what we want for such little effort
Guilt seems to keep everything in its right place
But when guilt is used as a weapon
The love returned offers little appeal
The moment a heart can gain its freedom
It walks away for the emotion was not real
When love is given the freedom to grow
When choices are encouraged and desired
The heart rejoices in anticipation
For true love has been seeded and inspired

Very true! Unfortunately for my ex, the guilt worked for a short 3 years.. unfortunately for me, it worked for 3 long years.
I do believe this shall remain my favorite!
beautiful as always!!!
Guilt can really pull on a person's soul.
Well said Donna!
Hey - you don't ever write anymore - okay just testing out guilt - lol
Good words.
Guilt and duty are poor reasons to do anything and poor weapons to use on others, especially in the pursuit of love (or its equivalent).
