Here is a list of some of the best past musical performers eternal resting places with a description of each. This is in no particular order. 1 through 16 are listed below.
Janis Joplin - Died on October 4th 1970. She was found dead in her hotel room at the Landmark Hotel in Hollywood, due to what is believed to have been a heroin overdose mixed with her favorite alcohol of choice, whiskey. Janis was cremated, after the cremation her ashes were spread in Pacific Ocean and along Stinson Beach in California.
Jim Morrison - Died on July 3rd 1971. He was found dead in a bathtub in his Paris apartment. His death is believed to be caused by heart failure. He was buried in Paris at Pere Lachaise Cemetery. The grave of Morrison is a top tourist draw for the area.
Bob Marley - Died May 11th 1981. He fell ill on his way back to Jamaica and died at the Lebanon Hospital in Florida. It is reported that Marley died of cancer at the age of 36. Bob Marley was placed in a crypt on Nine Mile which is on the north side of the Jamaican Island.
Patsy Cline - Died March 5th 1963. She was killed in a plane crash on her way back home from a concert. She was buried in Shenandoah Memorial Park located in beautiful Winchester, Virginia. An interesting point with Patsy Cline's burial is that her mother had the site marked by a simple bronze marker that reads "Death Cannot Kill What Never Dies: Love". Loretta Lynn and Dottie West who were dear friends of Patsy Cline contributed to a bell tower being erected at the site. The bell tower plays Gospel Hymns at the time of Patsy's death which is 6 pm.
Jerry Garcia - Died August 9th 1995. He passed on due to heart failure at the age of 53. Jerry Garcia was cremated. However there was a public memorial service held for him. It is said that more then 25,000 people attended the memorial that was held at Golden State Park in California.
Kurt Cobain - Died April 5th 1994. He died of a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. He was not found until the 8th of April. He was cremated and his ashes were spread in the Wishkah River, in Washington state.
Aaliyah - Died August 25th 2001. She died in a plane crash in Bahamas. Aaliyah is buried in the Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum located in Hartsdale, New York.
Johnny Cash - Died on September 12th 2003. He passed away due to complications of diabetes. He is buried next to his wife June Carter Cash at Hendersonville Memory Park located in the town of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
June Carter Cash - Died May 15th 2003. She passed into death due to complications from heart valve replacement surgery in Nashville, Tennessee. She is laid to rest next to her husband Johnny Cash at the Hendersonville Memory Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Elvis Presley - Died August 16th 1977. It is believed that he passed away from cardiac arrhythmia at his Graceland Estate. His body has been moved to Graceland along with the body of his Mother from the original burial site of Forest Hill Cemetery located in Memphis, Tennessee.
John Lennon - Died December 8th 1980 in New York. He was fatally shot by Mark David Chapman in front of his apartment building. John Lennon was evidently cremated with the location of his ashes unknown.
Jimi Hendrix - Died September 18th 1970 in England. It is said Jimi Hendrix died because he "suffocated in his own vomit after an overdose of barbiturates." Hendrix is buried in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery located outside of Seattle.
Freddie Mercury - Died November 24th 1991. Freddie Mercury died due to bronchial pneumonia associated with AIDS. Freddie Mercury was also cremated.
Luther Vandross - Died July 1st 2005. Reports say Luther died from continuing complications from a stroke in 2003. He is laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park in New Jersey.
Waylon Jennings - Died February 13th 2003. He died because of complications from diabetes in Chandler, Arizona. He is also laid to rest in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa City Cemetery.
Tammy Wynette - Died on April 6th 1998 of cardiac arrhythmia. She was buried at the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
My list of my favorite musical artist could go on and on. I plan to add another piece to this at a later time. No matter the years that have passed since their deaths each of the above people have taken their place in history for many reasons. They will continue to be heard for years to come, and countless people will learn more about them each day and grow to love the music that they made for the world to hear.
