The EVERYONE Guide to Celebrating Valentine's Day

Lori Holden
Valentine's Day is a holiday meant to comemorate St. Valentine who risked everything for selfless love and ultimately paid with his life. As a society, we have turned Valentine's Day into a me, me, me holiday. What are you buying ME? Where are you taking ME? What are you going to do for ME? What part of this is selfless? This year, why not celebrate Valentine's Day in a way that would make St. Valentine, himself, proud. Here are a few suggestions:

Buy a box of cheap Valentine's cards, fill them out, and use them to brighten the day for your friends and family. Better yet, give them out to compelete strangers, you might make a smile or two. :)

Visit a women's shelter and spend the day supporting women who really need it. Talk to those in charge and they might even let you throw a singles party there...fun for everyone.

Volunteer at a local nursing home
. You won't have to fight crowds, stand in line, or even make a reservation, and you'll be doing a world of good. Valentine's Day is a holiday where these folks, generally, get ignored, even by their famliy. Why not stop in and spread a little cheer?

Get in touch with someone you haven't seen in a while. Is there someone you have been meaning to call? Take advantage of the opportunity to pick up the phone and let them know you've been thinking about them.

The possibilities are endless. Whatever you decide to do, remember, there is no right or wrong way to celebrate. The point is to connect with someone this Valentine's Day.
