The Evolution of the Internet and It's Effect on the Society

In the era of globalization, the importance of Internet had growth tremendously in our country. The definition of 'Internet' is similarly a huge electronic library, which contains lots of information and knowledge. America Online is one of the largest Internet Service Provider or ISP in North America. Of course, with the advent of new technology such as the WiMax, the Internet is running at a blazing speed. A good infrastructure is required to support such a fast network. I truly believe that WiMax will be the next standard for Internet connection.

The Internet has its positive and negative elements. In the positive perspective, Internet can be used to communicate people from every part of the world within a few clicks in front of the mirror like composing email, online chatting and even video conferencing. A part from that, the Internet is very useful for the student community as they are able to obtain information for education purposes and expand their knowledge in every aspect by using the 'search engine' that are widely available in the Internet. As an example, Science students can complete their assignments and even post their question and problems in the forum, having provided services like e-banking, e-pay, e-medicine, e-info, e-community virtually through the Internet. Thus, the consumers can pay their electricity bills, buying grocery goods and even do virtual money transaction by the end of their fingertips.

Last but not least, the Internet is widely exposed to a lot unhealthy website like pornography, vandalism, ferocity, and lots of explicit elements. According to a survey carried out on 2004 by a United States based Internet security firm that they had detected more than 20000 pornography website had been developed per day around the globe. This kind of elements in the website may bring bad influences to the public. Indirectly, the crime's statistics like raping, sodomizing, and killing will increase gradually plus the cyber attacks like virus attacking and spamming. Irresponsibility I.T professionals like programmers might misused their knowledge by developing variant of Internet threats like virus, spy ware and Trojan horse that obviously will bring harm to the Internet Community.

To put in a nutshell, the usage of Internet has its pros and cons. Hence, it is up to the public to utilize the Internet service. Cyber authorities must take precaution to stricken up the cyber laws to take action against those disrupted the internet traffic or virtual criminals. Besides that, they should carry out campaigns as well to encourage more people to use Internet as it benefits mankind.
