The first change that Peeps undertook was simply the color of the Easter treats. Traditionally Peeps had been yellow but Just Born decided to make Peeps in other traditional Easter colors. Just Born started producing Peeps in pink, light blue, green and lavender. There is nothing different about the flavor of these different colored Peeps. All of them are simply sugar with food dye of a different color. The change is color was simply for fun and maybe there were a few anti-yellow customers out there to persuade.
The second change that Just Born decided to make to their Peep marshmallows were the shape. At Easter there are no longer just chick-shaped Peeps, they also come shaped as bunny rabbits. In addition to the bunny rabbit peeps there are also different shapes during other holiday seasons. There are now pumpkin-shaped Peeps at Halloween and Peeps shaped like Christmas trees at Christmas.
With the addition of Halloween and Christmas Peeps everyone's favorite Easter candy was now a year round treat. What more could Just Born do to improve Peeps? There was one thing that had been missing from Peeps all these years. Chocolate. Chocolate is the classic form of candy so naturally they figured Peeps plus Chocolate would be successful. I'm sure there are some customers that still prefer plain Peeps but Just Born had to satisfy the chocolate lovers too. So there are now some Peeps that simply have the bottom half dipped in chocolate and then there are other Peeps that are completely covered in chocolate.
There was just one final change made to the Peeps. Easter was still the main focus of Peeps even though they expanded to other holidays but the Peep that got the final overhaul was specifically the Christmas Peeps. There are now chocolate covered Christmas tree Peeps that also have a mint flavor. Over the years Just Born has changed everything about the Peeps but fortunately for those that still like the classic yellow chick-shaped Peeps, those are still easily found in most stores.
