The Exorcist - Scariest Movie of All Time?

Best Horror Movie of All Time?

Connor Richards
If you are looking for a scary movie, you have found it. This movie surprised me how good it was. Realistically, the seventies were a great decade with a music breakthrough, but not exactly a movie breakthrough. There were probably more good singers that began in the seventies than there were good movies that originated in that time period. Also, when you watch an older movie like this, you don't expect greatness or vulgarity. This movie was not only an amazing movie, but it scared the lights out of me. Typically, I am a very good scary movie watcher. I don't get scared at all in most movies. I sat through almost every single popular scary movie that has come out in the past several years, and after about the first ten or so movies, I began to become accustomed to them. I got used to the bloody horror movies and the scary horror movies, and all the combinations in between. But, as I began to see myself as a scary movie connoisseur, I decided I needed to see the classic scary movie. This movie was just a shocker in general.

This story, in essence, is about a normal girl that becomes possessed by a demon. She begins to do very strange things, and her mother looks for answers and someone to help her daughter. The butler that works at their house, as the mom is a rich actress, is murdered. This begins to raise questions to the daughter's sickness which needs an exorcism. This begins the plot where the mom and priests struggle to rid the daughter of the evil inside her and let her return to her previously normal, pre-demonic possession life.

There were some things I saw coming in this movie and some things that I would not have predicted in a million years. I will give you a couple examples that I hope do not need a spoiler alert because I want you to see this movie. It was such a good movie I feel the need to tell about it and share it. But, one example of something I saw coming was when the girl was beginning to show signs of possession she vomited all over her room and a reverend. One downside of this movie, though, is movie technology was not as good in the '70s, and the vomit looks simply like liquefied peas. Also, the girl's head turns completely around, and she begins to talk in a deep, creepy voice. Honestly, it's a scary horror movie; I could have predicted that one. But there were also some very creepy scenes that surprised me. It's not exactly a jumper movie; I don't really like jumper movies because they are not actually scary, they just have a couple random scenes where something appears out of nowhere. But, this movie is different. Something that surprised me was the intensity of the movie. The girl, at one point, begins to stab herself repeatedly in the legs and the related, close regions. When her mother enters the room, she grabs her and they struggle. Her mother tries to escape, and the girl puts her mother's face into her bloody legs and groin and says some vulgar, sexual statements. Times like these are the reason this movie is rated R. There are many instances that anyone watching would never expect, and that is the reason the movie is so interesting. Basically, even if this movie was made in the 1970s, it's better than every single horror movie that has come out recently.

I guess I'm a little jaded, but my favorite quote from this movie is "la plume de ma tante."
