The Fallacy of Evergreen Writing

Evergreen Isn’t Ever Anymore

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Eternal life is not the destiny
Of everyone or everything
That is spoken, built or written
Implied guarantees to the contrary
Notwithstanding.
Foreverness is often an elusive
And unfulfilled promise of
Hawkers of faiths
To those without hope,
Snake oils
To those with incurable illnesses
And web writers
ho crave attention and income
Through readership
On the internet
With the expectation
That, like time itself,
It will go on forever and ever.

Most adults
Have been lied to before.
The last time
Has not reliably occur
Until the day after
Those who believe in the concept
And understand a tad of Latin
In our orbit
Know that Extreme Unction
Has been said for us.

Even the giant evergreen tree
In time, dies;
And historic encouragement
To the contrary,
Some guarantees
Proffered in good faith
Turn out to have been lies.
Our field of and faith in
Evergreen writing
Es morte.
