Well, we all headed out.
The kids, the hubby, the dog and me.
The annual family fall trip.
To see what autumn delights we could see.
We got one mile down the road.
Of course, we had to stop.
The kids had to go to the bathroom.
Telling them no, no way, I'm not.
We ended up with sugar.
Candy bars, sodas and trail mix galore.
We all snacked.
Until we could not snack anymore.
Just look at those colorful fall trees!
I held the cell phone, out into breeze.
Snapping and clicking away.
That was not very smart of me.
We were on a dirt road.
I dropped the darn thing out of the car window.
We stopped to pick it up.
Yep. It was broken. You know.
Oh well, we headed on to grandma's house.
She has spectacular fall foliage.
She is funny, witty and very sharp.
Even more so, in her older age.
The dog was the first one out of the car.
We all laughed.
Until grandma told us.
Honeys, I think he needs a bath.
Grandpa introduced our kids to a new thing.
A big wide red rake.
They thought it was fun for one minute.
Then, you should've seen the faces they did make.
Lured by the scent of homemade chocolate cookies.
We all went into the house.
The dog was nowhere to be seen.
When we all came back out.
My littlest child cried out for Grover.
She flung herself on the ground.
Big sweet black furry Grover.
Well, he was nowhere to be found.
Just look at those beautiful piles of leaves!
My grandpa cried out!
We all laughed.
Then, we heard a funny sound.
Suddenly, we all saw a huge furry black head.
An eruption of fall leaves exploded across the yard.
There was Grover.
He had not gone far.
Shaking golden crunchy leaves from his thick fur.
We all cheered. The grandparents just sighed.
We crammed ourselves back into the car.
Ready for another family fall trip ride.
We all talked to grandma.
Later again, that night, on the phone.
My youngest had this to say.
Next year, we are leaving Grover at home.
Thank you so much for reading my funny family fall trip poem. Happy fall, ya'll!

Sweet and funny! I love a large pile of leaves. All that hard work for the ultimate leap into a pile of colorful fluff.
