India is a vast and large country having all sorts of visiting attractions. One such most appealing attraction is to visit all types of markets in any big city of India. Though you may not purchase anything from such markets, the stroll across the market itself can give you immense pleasure. One such most famous and the oldest market of India is situated at Chandani Chalk in old Delhi, the capital city of India. This market was built by Noor jehan, the daughter of the Mogul King Shahjehan in the seventeenth century in the year 1648. This market is situated just opposite to the famous red fort in old Delhi. The entire area connecting the famous Lahori gate of the red fort to the Fatehpuri mosque is known as Chandani Chalk. Many tourists visit this historical market during their visit to Delhi.

The tourists can easily reach this market by auto rickshaws or the rickshaws driven by the men. The taxis and cars are not allowed in this area, keeping the traffic constrain in mind. There is a water canal in the center of the market road, having the large trees on both sides of canal. This canal with trees provides very attractive appearance to this old and historical market. The ancient glory of this market still can be felt here at this market even after around 350 years of its making. However, it is now converted in to the jungle full of shops, hotels, restaurants, mosques, temples, and various types of hospitals. It is really difficult to walk through this market at any time of the day due to very heavy traffic. There are many types of markets here at Chandani Chalk. The first market is the electrical market that sells all types of electrical gadgets. There are all types of lamps, decorating lights, and all types of voltage converters available here. The next market ahead is the Silver market. All types of Silver ornaments in ancient and rare designs are available here at this market. The rates are also quiet cheap here at this market. The next market is Kinary market that sells the heavy reshami saris. The tourists from all over the country visit this market to buy costly hand woven saris. The next market is Balli Maran that is full of Indian doctors treating all types of diseases in their traditional Indian ways. However, be very careful in getting your treatment as sometimes these doctors who are not really qualified to treat the patients may mistreat you. The next market is parauntha gali, which has hundreds of food varieties on sale. This market is at its full swing after late evening hours. The next market in the sequence is Khari bavadi that sells all types of hot masalas, and the dry fruits. The last market in the sequence is the most important market of all and that is thief market. All types of stolen goods are sold here at a very nominal rate. Sometimes, you may get some useful item from this market. However, try to negotiate the prices to the maximum at this Chandani chalk market, particularly, here at this thief market.

In between these markets, there are various temples like Hindu temple, Digambar red temple, and the most famous Shishganj gurudwara. This gurudwara is one of the holiest places to pray for all the Sikhs. There is a famous Fatehpuri Mosque at the end of this market. The Muslims of this area come here to pray five times a day.

You may need around 4 hours to walk through this market. However, it is an experience of life time and rest assure, you can get any item from this market that you need and that too at very competitive rates. This market opens at around 11 am and starts closing by around 9 pm. The best time to visit this market is during evening hours, after 5 pm till around 8 pm. Many foreign tourists visit this unique market during their stay at Delhi and enjoy the shops, temples, mosques, and the gurudwara situated here. However, there is a real threat of pickpocket here. So, avoid carrying lot of cash and valuables while moving through this market.

I would recommend all my friends to visit this unique market during their next visit to Delhi in India.
