The Fast and the Furriest 10K Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Walk
Fund Raiser for Rochester (NY) Animal Services: Verona Street Animal Society
About Rochester Animal Services (RAS) and Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS):
Rochester Animal Services (RAS) is a government agency responsible for enforcing all New York State and City of Rochester ordinances pertaining to animal control. Among RAS's responsibilities are promoting responsible pet ownership and spearheading efforts to reduce animal overpopulation through education and sterilization. RAS hopes that controlling the pet population will reduce animal suffering and euthanasia.
An animal shelter run by RAS provides temporary lodging to stray, injured, or disowned animals. (The shelter is commonly referred to as "the pound.") The RAS animal shelter is where lost pets can be located. If a pet goes unclaimed, the animal shelter also serves as a pet adoption center.
Because RAS is a government agency they are not able to hold fund raisers. That's where Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) steps in. In addition to the annual "The Fast and The Furriest 10K Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Walk", the VSAS accepts donations of toys, linens, leashes, and treats for their animal friends.

"The Fast and The Furriest 10K Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Walk" will begin at Rochester Animal Services, 184 Verona Street (near Brown Square). Awards will be given to the top three overall finishers, the top three in each age group, and the top three pledge earners.
Last year's "The Fast and the Furriest 10K Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Walk" included over 200 runners and 150 walkers and raised a total of $30,000!
If you're not able to participate in "The Fast and the Furriest 10K Road Race and 1 Mile Dog Walk" this year but would like to support Verona Street Animal Shelter, donations can be made on-line at www.vsas.org/join.html. This page also includes a wish list and a listing of volunteer opportunities. But if you can make it, Wagner and I hope to see you on June 27th!

Post a CommentI love the name of the walk and I love the cause. We need more events like this to help homeless animals. Thanks for calling attention to this. :-)
We have something similar in Houston. It's held at the airport of all places.
We need to do something like this around here! This is a super idea and I know it would get an awesome response!
Great read, Kay!
Love this idea!
