The FBI Disputes News Reports - Private Funds Were Used to Pay Joran Van Der Sloot

The FBI Released a Statement This Afternoon to Clear Up Inaccuracies Reported Earlier

Kathrine Lloyd
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - The FBI released a statement this afternoon regarding its investigation into Joran van der Sloot's criminal conduct and extortion relating to the Natalee Holloway case in Aruba. The FBI, along with the U.S. Attorney's office in Birmingham Alabama, began a criminal investigation into Joran van der Sloot's alleged extortion attempts connected to Natalee Holloway's family back in April. FBI investigators claim that Joran van der Sloot offered an individual information about the location of Natalee Holloway's remains as well as the circumstances surrounding her death in exchange for $250,000.

FBI statement indicates the money transfer came from private funds, not the FBI.

In contrast to the reports on CNN, MSNBC, and FOXNews, the FBI has stated that the money transferred to Joran van der Sloot came from private funds and not the FBI. These news agencies have reported that the FBI transferred anywhere from $15,000-$25,000 dollars to Joran van der Sloot in order to obtain information about the location of Natalee Holloway's remains. The FBI is reporting that this information is inaccurate and that these were private funds, not federal dollars-huge difference.

FBI addresses questions about delays in the filing of charges against Joran van der Sloot.

The FBI is also addressing the flood of questions regarding why these charges were not filed earlier, potentially preventing the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez in Peru. The FBI has indicated that the charges had been set in motion weeks prior to the events which unfolded in Peru, however, evidence was not sufficient to bring charges prior to Joran van der Sloot's departure from Aruba. The FBI has extended its sympathies to Stephany Flores Ramirez's family, but denies any fault on the part of their office or the U.S. Attorney's office in Birmingham. The FBI and U.S. Attorney's office were working diligently to take action against Joran van der Sloot at the time they were informed of the murder in Peru. Unfortunately, an international case of this nature takes time and cooperation between authorities in more than one country and can be complicated.

With Joran van der Sloot in custody in Peru, it's unlikely he'll have access to harm any other women anytime soon thankfully.

A week of waterboarding, sensory deprivation, and beatings would have gotten the truth.

This story gets more bizarre every day! Interesting guest comment to be sure! There was a whole lot of cover-up going on here! Good grief...so despicable!

Sad situation that this second girl is also dead!

LOL. So, he fled the country, altered his appearance, had clothes covered in her blood in his possession, admitted he did it - and you're saying he was set up because you are theorizing that she was a lesbian? Wow. I could write an entire article on that alone...

It is so obvious a set up. I do not believe Joran is guity. Anyone will say anything and everything if they are forced. She was a lesbian....more likely her lesbian lover had a killer fit when she did not return home and this is how the girl was killed......this is not a democratic society.........makes me sick.......

I agree with JerseyNana. And, I do not think we will ever get the full and honest story.

These two families have suffered so much - it didn't have to be this way. cheers for the reporting.

There is too much controversy on this one, somebody is lying!

I'm sure all the apologies in the world don't make Stephany's family feel any better...it's all bad.
