The Final Battle

JAMIE MYLES
I could smell the decay as I peered into the thick darkness. The presence of unspeakable evil was so strong I feared it might engulf me.

Picking up my sword and shield, I inched forward and then I saw them . The piercing yellow eyes of evil.

The rancid smell was growing stronger and I thought I might vomit but I just kept advancing. I glanced at the warrior next to me. He looked amazing in the full armor. He was powerful and mighty. I was grateful to fight next to one such as he.

The screams of the afflicted and wounded were deafening as we moved deeper into the dark shadows to find the enemy who was so Wiley and clever.

I felt the hot breath of death waiting to consume everyone it could. Yes this is going to be the battle of all battles.

Suddenly they were upon us! the fight was vicious and intense. I swung my sword and cut the enemy down as they came in my path. They were relentless and blood thirsty. They wanted to devour us. The warrior next to me was cutting down the evil as it came at him from all sides. He was so mighty in battle!

We kept advancing in spite of the enemies great effort. Soon we were so deep into the haze of darkness It was as if we were blind but we kept moving forward fighting each step of the way.

When we entered the battle there were so many of us but our numbers were shrinking. Some were cut down, some were captured. Others fell at the wayside and some even surrendered as soon as they were wounded.

I knew I must continue to fight. There was no other option for me. You see, I had been captured by this enemy before and I knew what they were capable of. The fighting continued .

As we advanced I saw a soldier I knew lying wounded on the ground. I ran to help him up to his feet. He asked me to put his sword back in his hand. I grabbed the sword from where it lay and we headed back into the fight. I felt the heat of a fiery dart come close to my face. I was feeling weary but knew I must Fight with all my strength. I looked to my right and saw the warrior that had been next to me through out the battle. He was wounded but Was fighting with great vigor and strength. We continued onward and soon we realized that there were only a few of us left. Yet we had to press forward. there could be no turning back. The hoards of the enemy were closing in on us. We knew we were out numbered but we would fight to the end.

Suddenly I heard a voice cry out "Look up. Our redemption draws nigh!" I raised my eyes to see the Heavens open up and there was the one they call Faithful and True riding on a white horse with the hosts of Heaven following him. The enemy troops screamed and were running back and forth but they could not escape for the victory belongs to the Lord. We rejoiced as Our Lord Called out to us "Well done good and faithful servants." We had stayed the course and fought on even when we were tired and weary, even when we were wounded.

Yes, we had fought the good fight.
