The Final Countdown by Europe; A Quick Review

Kyle McMacken
The Final Countdown was Europes third studio album. It was released in May of 1986 by Epic Records and it sold over 3 million copies just in the U.S. There are five singles in the album: The Final Countdown (the best song in the world), Love Chaser, Rock the Night, Carrie, and Cherokee. Of course, Final Countdown brought Europe into great popularity. We all remember these songs as being "cheesy" and repetitive, but they were definitely composed and produced wonderfully. My favorite; and best song of all time The Final Countdown is one of the weakest, non-hard rock song they created and has little in common with the other tracks. Most of the cheesiness comes from the keyboards; not the slamming guitar-hero like solos. Joey Tempest puts on wonderful vocals with constant falsettos; which begin to feel repetitive after a while as well. The plentiful addition of "ooooh's" and "yeah-heahs" enclosed in these songs point out a considerable sum of oral wankery. My recommended tracks for this album are: Rock The Night, Cherokee, and Heart of Stone. Of course, if you have had a song stuck in your head for days and days and you wish to remove it; listen to Final Countdown and you will have it stuck in your head instead. Out of all the 80's albums, and light rock type music; The Final Countdown by Europe earns an amazing 4.5 out of 5 super thumbs up; giving extra credit to Joey Tempest.
