Oh, shoes. Those glorious leather blister inducers. Their impractically elevated heels (five inches this season, ladies!) that give your figure just the right support. Their elegant colors and designs that boost even the blandest outfits as soon as you slip your feet into them. They may be overly worshiped but with good reason: shoes are divine. They aren't gods themselves yet they possess certain godly qualities. After all, they have the ability to answer your prayers! "Please make me stunning for tonight's dance!" "Please give me some wiggle in my walk!" "Please do SOMETHING to make this dress a little less frumpy!" Grab the right pair of shoes and voila! Life is good, at least for the moment you look into the mirror. That's the sad thing about fashion; it can be so fleeting.
But this entry isn't about mourning; it's about celebration. Why? Because I'm starting up another fashion project, equipped with snazzy photos and killer descriptions. (Applause ensues). It's called "Adventures on Two Feet." Basically, I'm taking photos of all of the shoes I've brought with me to my first semester at Virginia Commonwealth University and then writing descriptions for each pair. The descriptions may cover everything from where I bought the shoes, how much I paid for them, what I generally wear them with, what sentimental value they hold to me, what the shoes reveal about the designer and our society, and what the shoes reflect about myself as not only a fashionista but also a human being. "Adventures on Two Feet" is far shorter than "Eleven Weeks of Eclectic Elegance," but I hope that with fewer items to feature, I'll be able to write more in depth descriptions and include more personal analysis.
So now you'll just have to stay tuned for the first entry in the series. Don't you wonder which pair of shoes I'll profile first?
