The First Smile
To a Friend
That acknowledgment of reciprocation
Two people saying more with an expression than with words,
an experience shared on earth
one moment in time.
It was the beginning
it has lasted for four years
burned in my brain as a memory that changed my life forever.
The first smile
The beginning of communications to come
I've seen so many other smiles
that were meant to communicate an idea or an emotion.
Yours was so specific and so direct.
Hints of other thoughts and dreams to come
things that have now transpired in life.
Had I never noticed or returned mine
what would have changed?
I wonder now at this moment in time
how you became mine?
It was the first smile that said "hello to a friend".
It was a secret shared and an acknowledgment of an emotion.
That purity of heart formed into a shape that lasts in my memory forever.
