The First Time We Met

In return I smiled.

You told me your name

and I told you mine.

Talking to you

was easy

for I felt that you could

see right through me.

It was almost like you knew

what I was going to say

before I actually said it.

I was feeling rather down

but when you said, "Hi"

right then I knew

as you did too

that we were going to be

the best of friends

me and you.

When you left to go back home

something inside of me said,

you'll be back

you won't be gone for very long.

Then I smiled

because I knew

that it was very true

This time I had gained

This time I did not lose.

The gift you gave before you left

was a big surprise to me

It was worth more than just a

"Thank You"

but I couldn't find the words to say

how much it really meant....

A while after you were home

I gave you a call on the telephone.

It was great to hear your voice again

It sounded like you were so much closer

than a thousand miles away.

Your stay here was much to short...

It just wasn't enough time...

Shortly we shall meet again

but if we don't

you will always be my

"Special Friend."

I shall never forget

the first time we met

when you came to me

and said, "Hi"

and I smiled!
