The First Trimester: All the Messed Up Stuff They Never Told Me

Maia Eagle
First of all, who the hell said once you get pregnant, nine months later, you have a baby? Pregnancy is measured by weeks, forty to be exact. And if my calculations are right that's TEN months! That's the first messed up thing they never told me. Being overdue means being 40 plus weeks pregnant. So I am either going to be induced or have a c-section. Hell, who am I kidding, I am not pushing anything the size of a watermelon out of my stuff, so c-section it is. And yes you do have a choice. It is called elective. And why do so many people care how you have your baby? To all the men and women who have no kids, why would you even open your mouth up to speak on the subject, especially men, And to all the women who have had kids but not by c-section, I think if you have not experienced it, you should not be allowed to give your opinion on it. And to all the women who have had a c-section and are still against it, next time choose a better surgeon and/or stay in shape during your pregnancy and maybe your experience won't be as bad next time. My point really is don't volunteer your opinion unless asked. Bottom line is we are all different. And we are not all going to have the same experience. I mean, my elective c-section was the best. Obviously, I didn't feel a thing. I recovered quickly and it really wasn't a big deal at all. So ladies don't just let anyone tell you anything because you will have a different experience regardless.

Ok so let's rewind back to September of 2005. I found out I was pregnant so obviously I needed prenatal care. Do you know I had to change by doctor three freaking times because they were all LIARS! Here is another messed up thing they don't tell you. You will not be getting ultrasounds at each visit so make sure you ask. Some of the offices don't even have the necessary equipment to perform ultrasounds. Who wants to go to an office like that while you're pregnant? I just thought that being pregnant meant I would automatically get them at every visit. And the really messed up thing about it is that they will tell you will be getting them, but in all actuality you may receive one at the first visit then again around your 5th month. So make sure you find out.

Alright, so like I said before everyone is different and will experience different things. But let me tell you one thing. Morning sickness is not just reserved for the mornings. I had all day nausea. But never vomit. I just felt sick all day long and had a nasty taste in my mouth to go along with it. Now at this point the doctor's appointments are monthly. And I wasn't really hungry and had to force myself to eat. But a lot of women have done just the opposite and have eaten so much because they think they are eating for two. This is another messed up thing. How come no one ever really stresses to these women you are not really eating for two. Actually during the first trimester there is no need to change your diet unless it is an unhealthy one. And after that an extra 300 calories is about all you need. NEWS FLASH ladies that's about a cup of yogurt or a medium sized apple. I mean think about it, the size of the fetus is so small at this point, do you really think the baby needs a whole meal.

And how come no one ever told me that prenatal vitamins are the size of a freaking horse pill. It may seem petty to you, but for me, it was a big deal. I don't even like taking pills, Hence the reason why I am pregnant. No but seriously they should tell you, before they prescribe it to you, so that maybe another option can be discussed.

So my first month was a breeze. I found out because something just told me to take a test. My periods weren't regular anyways so I had no real solid way of keeping track of my cycle. Anyways, I really thought it was going to be negative. Then I thought back to that late night snack of pork grinds, cheese, and hot sauce and would you know it. HOLY COW I am PREGNANT!...and unemployed. Isn't that some messed up crap. Then good old Hurricane Wilma decided to pay us a visit when I was two months along. That was a few weeks or hell. Cold showers, no power, waiting in line for gas for hours. No way to cook unless you had a grill. So by my third month I still was not showing. No cravings. My doctor said I was progressing well. Even though every one else just thought I was gaining too much.

One of the things that happened in my first trimester: There was the time I went grocery shopping and felt a little wetness between my legs. Well that was all I needed to feel, in order for me to think I was miscarrying. I was on the phone with my husband; and I just stopped in the middle of the parking lot and starting crying uncontrollably. But it wasn't that I was miscarrying; it was just the fact that no one had told me that my body would never be the same down there again. EVER. To be continued...
