The First Trip to Disney World

Kate
My parents are Disney World freaks. When I was a kid, they bought into the Vacation Club so we could go every year. Most kids go to Disney on vacation once or twice in their childhood, if they're lucky. When I got married, my husband thought this was rather odd. I would wax poetic about our wonderful vacations and how I'd love to go again with our little daughter. When he had to travel to Orlando for a conference, it was the perfect opportunity for us to tag along. Our daughter was about eight months old at the time.

When I was young, I was all about the rides. Especially ones that spun me, dropped me, and moved me really fast. Those three minutes of thrill were worth sixty minutes of waiting in line. But now, walking around Disney World with my baby daughter, everything changed. I no longer even noticed the thrill rides. To be honest, I didn't really notice the rides at all, as she was too young for even the tamest of attractions. But that didn't matter. What mattered was that I was in that same place, where so many family memories were created, and now I could do that for my daughter. Maybe I was a little more nostalgic, having just entered motherhood, but even though she won't remember it, I certainly will.
