During the day, the restaurant is lit by the skylights. At night, customers dine under a soft glow, which adds a somewhat romantic ambiance. The Fish Market also has a bar and lounge area, a full-service oyster bar and a seafood market.
The Fish Market is a place I go on occasion, mainly because my family doesn't like seafood. The restaurant offers New York strip steaks and boneless chicken breasts, but its non-seafood menu is too limited for my family.
I always order the Dungeness Crab Cakes appetizer whenever I go there. The cakes are warm and flavorful by themselves, but I like to dip them in the Dijon horseradish sauce that comes with them.
I've also had the Dungeness Crab Ciabatta sandwich, which has a good balance of crab and produce. The Seafood Louie salad comes with a generous portion of lettuce. I thought the shrimp was great, but the crab wasn't as fresh as I hoped it would be.
Apart from that, The Fish Market is one of my favorite seafood restaurants in San Jose. I look forward to going in the fall or winter, when I can try their cioppino and pastas.
If you need to throw a large party or banquet, The Fish Market can accommodate you. You'll have to make a reservation first, however. Couples and small parties can walk in and get seated almost immediately.
The meals and appetizers are priced between $10 and $25, depending on what you order. They open for lunch at 11a.m., Monday through Saturday. To get a full list of what times they open for lunch, dinner, the sushi bar, etc., visit www.thefishmarket.com. You can also get directions, if you are coming from outside of San Jose.
