Minus the grinding and seductively sliding around a pole as this is not taught in pole dance classes. It is a fantastic way of getting into shape. If you are already fit, it is a fantastic sport to learn and it will help to develop your stamina.
People may assume that you have to have good upper body strength and be fairly light in weight to start pole dancing, but this is not the case. You actually develop your upper body strength as you work, as well as shedding pounds from the exercise.
Some of the fitness advantages are;
Cardio vascular exercise - you will find that the effort you have to put in to spins and getting yourself upside down is quite hard work. It requires a lot of energy and it soon has you sweating and your heart pumping. Doing this for an hour along with a warm up and a cool down, burns tons of calories.
Building strength - as you learn to do more and more difficult moves, you will find that as you progress the things you first thought where hard become easy, and you soon find yourself able to hold your own body weight on the pole of a substantial amount of time without any effort at all. You will also find that climbing the pole will become easier. This is a combination of your abs and your arm strength improving. Holding yourself in positions can often involve a lot of work for your abs, as well as pulling yourself up and down from the pole with control instead of dropping from it, this will get easier and you will not even notice until you think about how difficult you used to find it. Also, you may not realise initially, but the strength in your legs will improve. Some spins and static positions involve being able to hold your legs out. A lot of people find this difficult as it is something that you do not normally do, but the strength in your legs will also improve.
Stamina - pole dancing is a great way to improve your stamina, over time you will improve your skills and be able to hold your body weight, complete more difficult and testing moves and spins and you will feel less tired and achy the more you do.
Overall, pole dancing is a fantastic builder of strength and stamina. It can help you to tone and lose weight, whilst you have fun with your family and friends.
