The Five Best Movie Theaters in South Florida

Movie Theaters in Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, and W. Palm Beach

These days, if you have an HD TV, a Blu-ray, and a great sound system you might think that going to a movie theater is pointless. Unless....there's something unique about the experience. In that case, South Florida has you covered. All the listed theaters have state of the art projectors, sound, and comfortable stadium seating tested by my own tush.

1. The Premier:- Want your own private balcony, a love seat, valet parking, and a glass of wine with your popcorn? Done. It's located at The Muvico Palace 20, in Boca Raton. This is already a nice theater but if you want an amazing experience, you have to go reserve a seat upstairs at the Premier. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. Your ticket includes valet parking, popcorn and reserved luxury seating.

First go to www.muvico.com and select which couch you would like. When you arrive at Muvico, pull your car up to the front, hand the valet your keys, and jump on the escalator. Once you're upstairs you can get your popcorn or place an order at Bogart's Bar and Grill. You can eat at the restaurant or ask to have the food delivered to you while you watch the movie. Want an adult beverage? Pick from a huge selection of wine and beer. When you're ready, an usher will then lead you to your private couch. You'll be sitting in an intimate balcony setting which feels similar to lounging at home except you are overlooking a monster screen with 6,000 speakers surrounding you. Enjoy.

2. Muvico Palace 20: As I stated, above, even if you don't do the Premier, you are still experiencing the same screen and sound. However, you will not be waited on like a king and may be sitting next to a screaming baby.

3. IMAX Experience: There are several Imax locations to choose from but the biggest in South Florida is the five-story-high screen AutoNation IMAX Theater located at the Museum of Discovery and Science. Located in Ft. Lauderdale, it has an 80 ft. x 60 ft. screen and 15,000 watts of digital surround sound broadcast from 42 speakers. Your 60 inch HD TV might look huge but it's nothing compared to watching a movie on this monster. I saw I am Legend here and thought the zombies were actually sitting in the seat next to me. Go to http://www.mods.org for more information.

4. Muvico Parisian IMAX: Yes, I'm listing another IMAX location but this is on the North side. This isn't officially as huge at the Autonation IMAX but you'll never notice. Located at City Place in W. Palm Beach, this theater is surrounded by great restaurants and bars. If you're visiting the area, I recommend you visit this outdoor, multilevel complex regardless if you're seeing a movie. You can grab a great meal, hang out with friends, and then strap on a pair of 3-D glasses and lose your mind. I saw Beowulf there in 3-D and was it was truly amazing.

5. Muvico Boynton Beach 14: At this point you can tell that Muvico pretty much owns Florida. This is another solid theater that also tried out the Premier concept but failed. Why? Because it wasn't balcony seating and they basically made one theater have nice couches and served you alcohol. It wasn't unique enough. With that said, this is a solid, renovated location with great screens and kept clean.

I could write a bunch of interesting facts about myself but 2000 characters is just not enough space.  View profile

the parisian muvico 20 at city place in west palm beach has a pretty small "imax" screen. In fact, after seeing Avatar imax i'm pretty sure its just a regular big screen. There was no "wrap around" effect .. the screen measured very close to '40 X 60'....maybe '35 X '55

This list needs updating because Cinebistro at Dolphin Mall by far should be #1.
