The Five Best Rides for Children at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Family Friendly Rides in the Magic Kingom at Walt Disney World

When Walt Disney first imagined Disneyland, he wanted a place where both adults and their children could have fun together. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the world was introduced to a theme park where Walt's vision of families having fun together came true. With the opening of Walt Disney World and the Magic Kingdom in 1971, the original ideas from Disneyland were brought to Orlando, Florida including the premise that both adults and children could have fun together.

Here are five attractions in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World where children and adult can have fun together... just as Walt Disney imagined all those years ago.

It's a Small World

Billed as "The happiest cruise that ever sailed the seven seas," It's a Small World is a classic Disney attraction. Guests board boats and set sail on an around the world adventure. Along the way, different continents and countries are represented by singing dolls all singing along to the infectious "It's a small world after all" song. The cruise ends with a spectacular finale in which dolls from all around the world join together to celebrate friendship and peace.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Soaring not-so-high above Fantasyland, Dumbo carries children of all ages into the blue Florida sky. The ride begins with riders climbing aboard Dumbo for a whimsical journey above Fantasyland. Riders can control how high Dumbo flies or have him fly up and down all as Dumbo's best friend Timothy the mouse acts as ringleader in the center of the ride.

Peter Pan's Flight

Based on the Walt Disney Classic Peter Pan, riders board a miniature pirate ship to begin their journey. The first stop is inside the Darling children's nursery where, with a little help from Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, riders discover they can fly. Soon, you're soaring high above the city of London with Peter Pan. Along your journey you encounter the mermaids of Mermaid Lagoon and a blundering Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. Of course, all ends well as Captain Hook fights off the crocodile and you return safely to Fantasyland.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

This ride is based on the much beloved Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred-Acre Wood. Rides board a giant honey pot for a whimsical journey into the world of Winnie the Pooh. Along the way, you'll bounce with Tigger, float on a balloon with Piglet, and encounter Heffalumps and Woozles. All in all, it's a pooh-rific adventure for children of all ages.

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Located in Adventureland, this ride is similar to Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride in Fantasyland. Rides board a magic carpet to fly above Adventureland. Riders can control how their carpet flies by controlling the upward and downward motion.
