Sleeping In
Yes, you can sleep on your days off and on Saturdays, but there's something special about sleeping in on a Sunday (the birds seem to be singing in better harmony, colors appear brighter, etc.). And nature seems in close focus. It's just an overall more peaceful feeling (when things are quiet, I also feel closer to God, whether I'm attending church or not).
The Smell of Bacon Cooking
This particular scent will always mean Sunday morning to me, and getting to eat a fantastic breakfast of either cheese-scrambled eggs, pancakes (sometimes with bananas or strawberries mixed in!) or waffles (sometimes French toast), accompanied by the omnipresent fantastic bacon (sometimes we had sausages, but bacon was THE meat).
Reading the Sunday Paper
After breakfast, it's a treat to just sit back, relax and leisurely go through the Sunday paper. I always like to read my favorite sections first, then get to the rest. Even in this electronic age, there's something reassuring about holding and reading an actual newspaper. Tradition!
The Fancy or "Good" Meal
Sunday was, and still is, the day of the fancy meal, the stuff that you wouldn't ordinarily get through the week (and if you grew up poor, this was the day you got to eat steak or pot roast and have pie or cake for dessert). Even now, I still wait till Sunday to make the "good" stuff!
Road Trips, Family Visits, TV Shows or Specials
Sunday was the day for long wonderful drives through the countryside, visits to other relatives' houses or relatives visiting us and often sharing the fancy meal. And on TV, some of the best shows or specials were shown on this day (and to a certain extent, they still are). A great way to cap off Sunday!
