The Five Health Benefits of Coffee

The five health benefits of coffee

There are quite a few health benefits of coffee. In previous articles I've discussed my attempts to quit coffee, but last week I came across the news that it could reduce the risk of prostate cancer. It also turns out that the health benefits of coffee don't just stop there. Here are just five more reasons why it is good to drink this often maligned beverage.

1. One of the most startling health benefits of coffee is that it can reduce your risk of type-two diabetes by more than half. In the past type-two diabetes was known as "adult onset diabetes" because this is the one that adults are most of risk of developing. In fact it is those people who drink a lot of coffee who seem to get the most reduction in their risk of diabetes; more than six cups a day. This is a disease that can really make life miserable for people and can shorten their lives so this reduction is important.

2. In another article I already discussed how drinking coffee can reduce the risk of prostate cancer by up to sixty percent. It also seems to work to lower the risks of other cancers as well. Apparently there are a lot of antioxidants in coffee and this may help to reduce the risk of bowel cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, and liver cancer.

3. One of the other health benefits of coffee is that it may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Studies in Finland suggest that drinking coffee in midlife can reduce the risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer's later on.

4. Apparently drinking a lot of coffee can really reduce your risk of developing gall stones. This is believed to work by lowering the cholesterol levels in bile and stimulating gallbladder contractions.

5. Drinking coffee can reduce your risk of developing Parkinson's disease. This has been supported by quite a few different studies with suggestions that it may risk the chance of developing the disease by one third. It is believed that coffee reduces the loss of neurons and it is this that helps with Parkinson's.

So these are just some of the health benefits of coffee. It is also worth mentioning that there are plenty of negative effects of coffee as well; or at least the caffeine in the beverage.
