The Five Lowest Calorie Items at McDonalds

Pat Bartels
Got a craving for McDonalds? McDonalds is not exactly the place you want to go if you're trying to lose or maintain weight. However, an occasional visit won't hurt you if you watch what you're eating. Here's a list of the 5 lowest calorie items on their menu. If you're going to indulge, choose wisely.

1. Chicken McNuggets (4 piece)

If you have a craving for Chicken McNuggets the 4 piece selection is 190 calories. Add a packet of sauce and you add another 50 calories. Except for the hot mustard sauce and that's 60 calories. Granted four McNuggets isn't much, but if you eat them slowly they will probably sooth your craving.

2. The Regular Hamburger

The regular Hamburger is 250 calories. You want to stay away from the regular cheeseburger, though, because that little piece of cheese that is added is another 50 calories, and almost doubles your fat content. Forget about any of their other burgers, you don't even want to know what their calorie content is.

3. Small French Fries

Believe it or not, but a small order of fires is only 230 calories. As with most McDonalds selections the fat content is high, however the sodium content was not bad depending on how much salt, or if you add ketchup. You can ask them for fires without salt, and they are willing to oblige. You will have to wait a little longer as they will have to fry up a new batch in order to give you your salt free fries.

4. The Grilled Snack Wraps

All of the grilled snack wraps are around 260 calories. By themselves they probably won't fill you up, but you can also add a small salad for 20 calories, a packet of balsamic vinaigrette dressing for 40 calories, and be pretty satisfied.

5. Premium Ceasar Salad with Grilled Chicken

The Caesar Salad with Chicken is 220 calories, but watch how much dressing you put on. Just one packet of creamy Caesar dressing is 190 calories all by itself. Calories can add up quickly. If you aren't careful, you can eat a whole day's calories at one sitting without realizing it.

If you want to eat at McDonald's go ahead, just be aware that most of their sandwiches are above 400 calories. The Angus Bacon and Cheese burger is 790 calories. Watch out for that baby. Even their lower calorie items have a lot of fat and sodium. Just don't make too many visits.

I thought I was going to find their yogurt parfait on this list – which is really good, by the way, and it's about the only thing I really like from McDonald's. Well, admittedly, I like their fries too, but I'll eat only a couple of them off my grandchildren's plates. I never order them for myself.

Thanks for the info. I rarely eat the food there anymore. They do make the only fries I really like though.

This is great information. It's certainly good to know that I can eat at Mickey D's without completely blowing the diet!
