The Five Most Colorful Birds

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Colorful birds are great to see while birdwatching. Everybody knows that peacocks are colorful, but they are rarely seen while birdwatching. Of course, it is also known that flamingos are pink because of their diet, but those are rarely seen while birdwatching. Instead, it is great to know what birds are extremely colorful to see while birdwatching.

Lorikeets

Lorikeets are native to the Australasian area, so they are not seen in the Americas or Europe. However, they are one of the prettiest and most colorful birds to grace the planet. They have almost every color of the rainbow on their bodies and the colors blend together perfectly, yet can also be distinctly seen on the birds.

Painted Buntings

The males are the only painted buntings with vibrant colors. Female painted buntings are green. Painted buntings are native to North America. The males look like miniature lorikeets, although sometimes the colors are more muted than a lorikeet's colors.

Scarlet Macaws

Scarlet macaws are usually found in South America. However, some people also have them as pets. Their colors are the primary colors - red, yellow, and blue - with white and black face markings. They are always pretty to see, but they are especially impressive when their wings are spread for flying.

Kingfishers

It is estimated that there are around 90 species of kingfishers. They are located throughout the world, but they are not found in polar regions or the driest desert. Some have an orange, yellow, or gold underside and a green or teal back. There are especially pretty when they have a bright orange or brilliant gold underside and a shiny teal back. There are kingfishers that are red and black, green and brown, or other combinations of colors. Any color kingfisher is one of the prettiest and most colorful birds on the planet.
