The Flight

Elevate Above the Storm

Tye Martin
The woman sat there on the plane anxiously waiting to take off. A few moments later the captain came over the intercom letting everyone know it would be about 20 more minutes before they got clearance to leave because of the rain.

Why was it raining so much the woman thought to herself. It had been raining for 7 days straight, not to mention the drama filled week that she already had. It felt like the longest week of her life. Perhaps it might have felt a little better if the sun were shining, but it was no where to be found and with clouds and darkness all around, how can I see the light, she thought to herself. She had lost her job, ended her 4 year relationship, and buried a close friend all in the same week. After reflecting and replaying everything over and over again in her mind, she began to become annoyed and irritated by the fact that the plane was still on the ground.

Finally the captain came over the intercom announcing the flight would be taking off. The woman became a little nervous because she had never flown in a storm before. As the plane began to ascend, she clutched her armrest as tight as she could, while her feet curled up tightly with tension and anxiety. The ascension from the ground was submerged in heavy turbulence. As she pierced out the window at the thick gray clouds that seem to fight back with fists of fiery against the steady hard climb of the plane, the woman thought she was going to die in the storm for a brief moment.

Just as she thought she was going to start hyperventilating, the plane reached a steady altitude way above the storm. To her amazement the sun was still shining just as bright and glorious as it always did, even above the storm. Wow! She thought to herself. I have learned a valuable lesson. The rainstorm was a manifestation of my spiritual and physical storm, but no matter what storms may come, no matter how severe, the sun never ceases to shine. Even though you may not see it, you have to trust and know that it's there and sometimes you have to go through a little turbulence and resistance before you reach the final destination, but you will reach it as long as you continue to elevate.

Gazing off into the beauty of the bright horizon, and looking down over the storm she was now over and pass, she got a warm glow in her spirit reassured that everything was going to be alright.

Well, Well Ms. Tye!! I enjoyed the straight forward, minimal metaphoric style in which you delivered the simple Truth that God is still God despite life's many challenges.
