The ambiance is typical for a beer bar. Seating is plentiful in the downstairs interior bar area with tables and stools. There are also two outdoor patios, one upstairs and one downstairs. If you enjoy Texas music the view of the nearby 8.0 concert stage from the second floor patio is spectacular. Make sure to arrive hours early if a big name act is playing, as many locals recognize this as a prime concert viewing venue.
The school girl clad waitresses are dubbed "Beer Goddesses" and most fit the moniker nicely. They are knowledgeable about the beer they serve, and will gladly answer any questions you might have. The bartenders are always well informed and can help you decide on the beer that best suits your tastes.
Beer selection here is unequalled by anything else in Fort Worth, with the possible exception of The Ginger Man, which is on the other side of the Trinity River. From the typical bland American style pilsner macrobrews (in bottles only) to a $45 Belgian ale, they've got around 70-80 beers on tap, with at least a hundred additional bottled brews: including at least one cask-conditioned ale, several seasonal rotators from the country's best craft breweries, and many exceptional imports on draft. They feature plates (or saucers) all along the walls of the interior, topped by the "ring of honor" promoting those brave souls who have samples 200 different beers, and with the selection available that isn't a challenge.
The food menu is almost equal to the beer menu in terms of quality and variety. At what other bar can you get a garlic pesto chicken pizza, or a similar pie topped with caramelized onions, peppers, and goat cheese? There are plenty of bar food favorites as well: soft pretzels, bratwurst galore, and cheese fries. Defiantly skip the dinner beforehand and try dining here, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There are now Flying Saucers located all over Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and more will most likely be popping up soon. But if you get the chance, stop by the original in Fort Worth, you won't be disappointed.
