The Formal Letters..

Vol. I

J. Paul Norton
Looking back on past writing is always a great thing to do. I took a few moments recently to go back into the mail bag and pull out some of the best "formal Letters" I had received from fans. For some of you though, this will be brand new. I hope you'll have a laugh or two and enjoy the formal Letters.

fL: J Paul, rumor has it that you are a huge Castle fan. Is that true? Miley, W., Jackson, Miss.

JP: It took some time, but yes, Castle has grown on me. Nathan Fillion has always been one of my favorite actors, ever since his stint on Firefly/Serenity. Man, Joss Whedon has an eye for talent. (Stana Katic is also nice on the eyes).

fL: Now that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is out of the way, which character should be up next? Mark T., Wilmington, NC.

JP: I think they have to go with Cyclops. They killed him off mercilessly in X-Men: The Last Stand, wasting one of my favorite characters. To be honest they need to rebuild his whole persona. The leader of the X-Men too often comes off as an indecisive and unrespected member of the team. He derserves better, and could be retooled in a more Ethan Hunt/Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent vein. Just add a greater range of leadership, just a pinch of darkness, and a whole lot of internal fortitude and you've got it!

fL: If you were going to pitch a show to Fox for the Fall, what would it be about and who would be cast? - Tracy S., Austin, TX.

JP: Tracy, great question. With T:TSCC cancelled, I would have to say there is a huge sci-fi void. I am thinking what Fox needs is a cross b/n Alias and T:TSCC starring Brendan Fehr, David Boreanaz and Scott Foley. They can be a team of special agents battling an organization that uses genetically mutated armies who have infiltrated all levels of society. I would also cast Alyson Hannigan, Elisha Cuthbert and Sarah Shahi. This is a winner, I can't be more serious.

fL: I know you have been keeping up with rumors surrounding a new "Buffy" movie that may be in the works. What are your thoughts about a big screen feature from this universe without Joss Whedon's involvement? - Heather J., Gainsville, FL.

JP: Heather, I think we have heard all the "Slayer" stories we can take for a generation. What really needs to happen is a feature film about "Angel" instead. The Vampire thing is hot right now and there are just so many stories to tell. Just cast well and you have an instant classic. And, a film about Angel isn't so Joss dependant. Could actually soar with a new creative spearhead.

fL: There has been a lot of talk about the Browns revamped defense looking reminiscent of the Bears "46" defense. Can this group gell, improve and make an impact this year? - Milton H., Cleveland OH.

JP: No doubt the Browns defense will evolve. I look to Abram Elam to really lead this group on the field and help this defense make a name for itself. I expect immediate improvement. But, I also expect some terrible losses tied to defensive mistakes. There is a lot to learn and we are still a number of playmakers away. Don't lose hope, but if you have the NFL package, keep it and always have a second game a button click away!

fL: It is like a dream come true to have Shaq coming to Cleveland to play with LeBron. Many also can't wait to see Vince Carter team up with D. Howard. What players would you have loved to see playing together? - Brad T., Chicago, Il.

JP: You know, my dream team would have included Jalen Rose and Chris Webber with Larry Johnson! But, I would have loved to have seen a young Penny Hardaway and Shaq teamed up with Scottie Pippen. Or, maybe Shawn Kemp and Jason Kidd. If you are talking more about current stars, I would like to match Kobe, Boozer, and Derek Rose.

fL: Is it time for Jennifer Love Hewitt to walk away from 'The Ghost Whisperer'? - Meagan T., Martinsville, VA.

JP: One of the greatest tragedies in television was how poorly the life of Sarah Reeves was handled in the television spin-off 'Time of Your Life'. TGH is a solid project to keep her working, but I would say that it is time she moves on. She needs to be on a show people actually watch. I can't be more serious about this. If it were up to me, she would be cast opposite Scott Speedman and Brendan Fehr in a show with the same premise as 'October Road' only a lot different and a lot better.
