The Fox & Hound Restaurant in Raleigh, NC

A Review

Debbie
The Fox and Hound Pub & Grille located in the North Hills Shopping Center is a fun place to go after a movie or a day of shopping. The atmosphere is comfortable, casual, and the food is outstanding. And, if you get nothing else from this review, remember fried Oreos!

Beware of tight parking, as the outdoor mall has many bends and curves and is always very busy. If you get there anytime between the hours of five and eight, parking is likely to be difficult close to the restaurant and it might be better to try parking in the lot connected to the Target.

Upon first entrance in to the restaurant, a hostess is waiting to seat all parties. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately. The room we were seated in was off to the right side of the restaurant. There were plenty of people dining in that area, but there was little noise or distraction.

The service in general at The Fox and Hound was good. I would not say outstanding, but nothing I would complain about either. Our waitress was friendly enough, although not overly so. This was fine with me and my dining companion, although some people might prefer a server who was more attentive. For us, however, no real complaints. Our food was brought in a timely manner, and although we waited a bit too long for the server to take our dessert order, it was not a problem. We were girl chattering and could have chattered all night, so we were in no rush.

The food was by far the best thing about our experience, and as it is a restaurant, it should have been. I had the Ziti Alfredo, which is billed as "A Better Mac 'n Cheese! The classic tossed in a Parmesan cream sauce loaded with mozzarella" on the menu. This is an excellent description! It was delicious! Rich, creamy, and decadent and definitely better than Mac 'n Cheese! My friend ordered the Pot Roast and Mashed Potatoes. She seemed to like the pot roast but did not rave about it. However, she couldn't say enough good things about the mashed potatoes.

The best part of my meal, and the part of my meal that I have dreamt about ever since I ate at the Fox & Hound, was the most unbelievable dessert; fried Oreos! I cannot remember the last time I actually fantasized about a food item, but fried Oreos have frequently made it in to my dreams in the last month. The Oreos are warm, covered in a sweet tempura batter and covered in caramel and chocolate sauce. Unbelievable! I asked to have the whipped cream replaced with vanilla ice cream, and although the waitress did this for me, she was confused as to why I asked for it that way. She also gave me a very small bit of ice cream, which was disappointing. It would have tasted just a bit better with a small scoop more. I am not sure if the fried Oreos were just a special, but as I looked at the menu when beginning to write this review, they were not there. I recommend asking if they still serve them if you're interested. You will not be sorry! Even my friend's hot chocolate chip cookie sundae couldn't compare.

My dining experience at the Fox & Hound restaurant was a positive one, and I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone in the area, if for nothing else but the excellent food. The service was good, not great. The atmosphere was good, not great. But, my meal more than made up for any other small inadequacies the restaurant may have had.

I haven't been to Fox & Hound before but after reading your review will be sure to try it in the near future. I am big fan of Coquette because they serve great traditional French dishes. Coquette is a great place to have dinner with friends during with week and then a low-key brunch on the weekends.
