The Fracture Website Gets an Update

LucasArts Updates the Website for Its Upcoming Video Game

LucasArts and developer Day 1 have joined forces as they work to bring their powerful new video game, Fracture, to stores this coming October. LucasArts is upping its marketing ante for the third-person shooter's rapidly approaching fall release to the next-gen consoles PlayStation3 and XBOX 360. As part of those efforts LucasArts recently revamped the Fracture website. Fans can now explore the upcoming game's story line, characters, and technology and take advantage of other exciting interactive features on the improved site.

What is Fracture?

Fracture is the new sci-fi third-person shooter from Lucas Arts, the well-known producers of juggernaut titles such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. The game takes place more than one hundred years in the future during an American civil war over human rights and genetics. Between now and then, vast advances have been made in the fields of human genetics and cybernetics. The first humans are cloned with horrifying consequences that lead the American East Coast to outlaw any further genetic experimentation. Scientists instead make their way West and continue to develop the new technology. Revolutionary breakthroughs in robotics and cybernetics pave the way for new armor and weaponry that can be controlled neurologically. In addition, global warming, earthquakes, and other natural disasters have taken their toll on the planet, leaving the American Midwest obliterated by flooding and literally "fracturing" the geography of the country. The first nuclear attack since Nagasaki hits the Middle East.

The player find him or herself engaged in the new East versus West civil war -- or, as it is termed in the game, the Atlantic Alliance versus the Pacificans -- as soldier and demolitions expert Mason Briggs. The Atlantic Alliance sends Briggs to quell the Pacificans when they secede from the union in 2161 following the passing of a law that denies the rights of an American citizen to anyone who is genetically modified. Briggs fights using both traditional forms of weaponry like grenades as well as new tectonic technology known as terrain deformation that allows him to modify the landscape in unique and devastating ways.

Get a taste of the action online

The newly revamped Fracture website offers fans a host of information, extras, and other tantalizing. Learn more about the game's back story, main characters, and prime enemies in the Intelligence tab. Visitors can also find out further details about game locations and get a glimpse of the armory that will be available to Briggs and the other civil war soldiers. Fans are able to discover the pros and cons to being either pro-genetics or pro-cybernetics, then begin to stake their alliances on the community discussion board.

One of the Fracture website's most impressive and engaging features centers around the in-game technology of terrain deformation. Visitors to the site can test out this new aspect of warfare on the website, although those with a slower connection will probably want to avoid this feature. Test out a selection of the revolutionary demolition arsenal, watching the unique effects of each weapon on a piece of the landscape.

Visitors who want to remain in the know regarding Fracture can "enlist," or sign up for an exclusive email update newsletter. Updates as well as events, news, and press releases are detailed on the website under the News tab. The community forum allows fans to connect with similar-minded individuals across the globe, chatting about weaponry and making predictions about the game. In addition, fans can download promotional content including screenshots, trailers, concept art, and wallpaper via the Arsenal tab. Visitors can even watch video featurettes on the making of the game directly on the website. Those who are eager to solidify their future ownership of the game can pre-order a copy through the LucasArts site.

Although Fracture's October release date still seems like it's a long way off, especially for impatient fans, at least the new and improved LucasArts website helps diffuse some of that anticipatory frustration. Visitors can get a true taste of the game and even try out some of the game's unique offerings, like terrain deformation. If the game itself is anywhere near as sumptuous and high-powered as its website, Fracture is sure to be a smashing success with both PlayStation3 and XBOX 360 console gamers alike.
