The Fray and Daniel Powter

Review of "Bad Day" and "Over My Head"

Laura Hickey
If you're a fan of the piano, you might want to check out the musical styles of Daniel Powter and the band The Fray. Both artists currently have songs which both entwine piano with lyrics about heartache and dealing with a crummy day.

"Bad Day" has a run time of around three minutes and fifty three seconds. The song starts out with one starting out their day with a cup of coffee and pretending that things are okay. But deep inside things are falling through and you're having a bad day. About half way through the song there's a brighter side to it- the lyrics and the beat are more uplifting and even though it's been a bad day, it's not the end of the world.

The music video features two young people starting their day in similar ways and both taking a lunch break in the same park each day. Then on their way home they start communicating through these pictures which ends up being a women sitting on a bench being shelter by the rain with a guy holding an umbrella. The two main characters meet up in the end when it's raining out waiting for a taxi cab.

The Fray according to reports had a battle of the bands back in high school also show a battle of music in their music video. For many the song 'Over My Head' reminds them of being over their head in a life situation and not knowing where to turn. Or it may remind them of trying to hook up with someone, that certain someone being on their mind all the time. But before you know it things start to fade and you lose that person in your life.

Both songs are great to listen to when you're feeling down about something. You can purchase these songs as a single at your local music store. Keep a look out on major music stations MTV and VH1 to catch the music videos which are usually played in the mornings. But be warned- you may become addicted to these songs and might not be able to get them out of your head!
