The Frigidaire 3.5 Cu. Ft. Front Load Washer Model FTF2140FS

Marie Westgate
I recently moved into an apartment and vowed to boycott Laundromats. I don't have time to go there and wait on my clothes to finish, besides the fact that it is just a hassle to drag your clothes out of the house and drive somewhere. Anyhow, this vow required a search for the perfect washing machine. At the beginning of my search I was just going to buy a used washer, but then decided a brand new Energy Star appliance was the way to go. The one that I chose is the Frigidaire 3.5 Cu. Ft. Front Load Washer (Model FTF2140FS). So far I have been very satisfied with my selection.

The price was not bad, right under $600.00. This is a little bit more than one would expect to pay for a front load model, but the features on this machine are well worth it. It came with a one year manufacturer's warranty, and I chose to purchase the retailer's protection plan as well.

You have the option to purchase the pedestal for it, but I find it works just fine without it! The only color it comes in is white, so if you are looking for a snazzy color, you will end up looking up in price. But hey, white goes with everything, right?

The capacity of this dryer is actually pretty nice and the tub is a stainless steel. There are no agitators like a top load would have, so this makes it much gentler on your clothes.

This washing machine comes with lots of cycles to choose from, which made me glad. I really like a washer with a handwash cycle, and this one offers that. It also offers a delicate, permanent press, heavy duty, soak, quick and extra spin cycle. There are four temperatures and three speeds. The only thing I don't like about the quick cycle is that it seems to skip a spin cycle, so the clothes come out very wet.

There are bleach, fabric softener and detergent dispensers all located at the top left hand corner of the washer. This does take HE detergent only! Otherwise you will end up with a soapy mess.

The dimensions are 36 in tall, 27 in wide and 27 ¾ in deep, so it will easily fit where any other normal washer will fit.

Some of the convenient features of this machine are the 8 hour delay start and the option to turn the end of cycle buzzer on or off. There are also some little green indicator lights on the front of the machine so that you can glance and see what cycle it is on, so you know what the status of the washing is. It also has an automatic door lock feature, so someone doesn't accidentally pull the door open and flood your laundry area.

The other great thing about this Frigidaire washer is that it's very quiet! I love that in a traditionally loud appliance.

The only other thing I don't care for about this washer is that water will gather in the heavy rubber rim, so you have to leave the door open after running a load. If you don't, you will experience some bad odors. That is probably expected with any front load washer though.

I have heard that some people have problems with the electronic buttons failing to function, but so far mine has been fine.

Overall, this washer is a great buy. I highly recommend it.

I recently bought this machine eight moonths ago and already the machine is malfunctioning. It does not go through the cyle after filling up. I would never buy a front loading machine again.
