Blair Michaela Shanahan Lane would be considered a modern-day shero to many who knew and loved her. Tragically her life was snuffed out at the tender age of 11 years. She was the victim of a stray bullet this past July 4th. She passed away a day later.
Her Dream
To provide socks for children who have none. These children are homeless or living in foster homes. She particularly liked bright-colored socks.
Why Foster Socks?
She observed that when her family fostered children they usually came with no socks or had bare feet. This was a hard thing for her to grasp.
And What Did She Do?
She developed a project for a Girl Scout Gold Award Project that she called Blair's Foster Socks. She had these plans already written down in her journal.
The Family Continues the Dream
According to her mother, "Blair radiated the love and presence of God. She would have gotten this done. But now it's up to us".
How Can You Help in the Dream?
Check donations can be mailed to Blair's Foster Socks, Blue Ridge Bank and Trust, 6202 Raytown Trafficway, Raytown, MO 64133. For more information visit www.blairsfostersocks.org.
Additionally, on October 6, 2011, the 9th Annual USG Golf Tournament will be taking place at Teetering Rocks in memory of Blair. The family and friends of Blair are hoping to have a pick-up truck on the premises where people can donate socks. Call 816-805-8121 or email jcherrito@usg.com for more information.
Conclusion
It is obvious that children can make a positive difference in the lives of others. My prayer is that Blair's family will find peace and comfort in the midst of their grief. May Blair's dream continue to live on and serve as an example to inspire others to do good for others as well.
