The Full Faced Rose

Or the Long Winter of My Discontent

Shirley A Mandel
Dear Lord,
this has been such
a rough winter,
for Murphy's Law
has been in full effect
since the dawning day
of the Great Winter Solstice Holiday.

I've been alone and depressed
on Christmas eve
and cold at night ever since.
I've had to empty out
my bank account to pay
this year's energy bills,
and even the last week of January
is going to be an egg sandwich
and veggie soup sort of week
for I have no meat left
in the empty freezer.

Plus not one,
but both computers
are out of order now
so I'm computerless too.

But as a seed
of the Righteous One,
I will never be forsaken
or left to beg bread of strangers.
And all foods provided by You
will be taken with thanksgiving
in my heart.

Oh Lord,
this life that you have given us
is like a full faced rose;
it is beautiful
and fresh everyday.

But a full faced rose
must be handled carefully
because there are thorns
hidden helter-skelter
along the stem.

But by by your grace,
God's people shall prevail
over the sharped tipped
trials of life.

Yes Lord,
God's people shall prevail.

I hope things improve for you soon. I know exactly what you're going through. I'm having it pretty rough myself right now. If it weren't for my mom I don't know how I would make it through the winter months. She's been a big help for me and I hope one day I can repay her for all her help.

That is beautiful. Whom can we cry out to but the Lord. Remember, winter is just a season. This too shal pass.
