The Funniest TV Show of All Time

This topic can make you think about a lot of different shows that have been watched over the years. Faulty Towers, Father Ted and The Cosby Show for example. Then there's the cartoons Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy and South Park. What should we bring into consideration? Longevity, genre, target market and characters within the show. Pondering on any of these subjects could last a while but from my stand point the funniest ever TV show has to be South Park. I can't recall how many times that show made my sides split with the laughter.

If you haven't heard of South Park you've probably being living under a rock for the past 10 or 12 years. It's an animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone and airs on Comedy Central. Obviously the humor is directed more so at a mature audience and has become probably one of the most infamously rude, vulgar and crude shows of its generation.

Comedy Central approved the show to air in 1997 which proved to become one of if not the most successful show being aired on the network. With a hilarious cast consisting of characters such as Eric Cartman the manipulator, Stan Marsh the middle man, Kyle Broflovski the belittled Jew fighting for what's right and Kenny McCormick the muffling little boy from the lower class of society.

The show follows these four boys through their bizarre adventures in and around a small Colorado town. Enforcing their success just two years after launch a South Park movie was released on the world which could only be described as jaw dropping! Not to forget the guest stars which are usually impersonated, however some celebrities lend their voice sometimes. Celebrities who have voiced themselves include Michael Buffer, Brent Musburger, Jay Leno, Robert Smith, Radiohead, Korn, Jennifer Aniston and Richard Belzer is just a few names to mention.

Entitled South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut with a plot line surrounding our four boys adventure to stop the execution of their favorite TV celebrities and prevent the rise of Saddam Hussein from the murky depths of hell. South Park has also received numerous media awards, most notably three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.

The animation may have been made from construction paper cut-outs with a traditional stop motion animation technique but the outrageous story lines and dark humor kept this show one step ahead of the rest. One episode I can recall that stuck in my head was "Make Love Not Warcraft", which follows the boy's antics playing the online game World of Warcraft. From the obscene geek references to the computer junky this episode epitomized, no defined the word laughter for myself.

Still going strong in its 13th season nearly 14th we will be sure there's no slowing down for this comedy giant bringing the more taboo subjects to light with a funny twist of satire. So expect this show to keep rising to greater heights and capturing the hearts and funny bones of more audiences around the world for the next decade at least.
